We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled General Superintendent to oversee the operations of all our construction job sites and lead a team of superintendents. This individual will be responsible for ensuring that every project meets the highest standards of quality, safety, and legal compliance, while also aligning with our clients' expectations. As the General Superintendent, you will coordinate and manage multiple teams, conducting thorough site inspections to uphold our meticulous attention to detail, compliance with building codes, safety regulations, and client specifications. Your leadership will be essential in creating a collaborative, efficient, and safety-conscious work environment that ensures projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the satisfaction of all stakeholders. This role will oversee job sites primarily in Santa Barbara, and secondarily in Ventura and Los Angeles.

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in construction site management, exceptional leadership abilities, a keen eye for detail, and a commitment to delivering projects to the highest standards.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Leadership & Supervision :

Oversee and manage a team of construction superintendents, providing guidance, mentorship, and ensuring that each job site is being effectively supervised and managed.

  • Inspect and assess all active construction job sites daily, ensuring quality control, adherence to project specifications, and compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
  • Foster a culture of safety, teamwork, and accountability across all project sites by leading by example and enforcing company policies and procedures.
  • Act as a point of escalation for on-site challenges, providing direction and solutions to overcome obstacles and delays.
  • Project Scheduling & Coordination :
  • Develop and maintain overall project schedules in collaboration with the project managers and subcontractors to ensure deadlines are met.

  • Proactively identify potential project delays or issues across job sites and implement mitigation strategies to keep projects on track.
  • Coordinate with architects, engineers, subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers to ensure alignment with project goals, timelines, and quality standards.
  • Ensure proper allocation of resources, and schedule subcontractors, vendors, and materials in line with project priorities and critical paths.
  • Quality Control & Compliance :
  • Maintain strict oversight of the quality of work across all job sites, ensuring all construction is performed to specification and meets company and industry standards.

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable local building codes, safety regulations, and environmental standards.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections and implement corrective actions as needed to maintain a safe working environment for all personnel on the job site.
  • Perform or coordinate necessary inspections (e.g., city, county, deputy inspectors) and ensure that all regulatory approvals are obtained.
  • Project Documentation & Reporting :
  • Maintain comprehensive records of job site activities, including daily logs, personnel attendance, and work progress.

  • Collaborate with management team to prepare project documentation such as change orders, RFIs, submittals, and progress reports.
  • Create and review weekly progress reports to track project milestones and identify any issues or deficiencies that need to be addressed.
  • Maintain accurate records of material submittals, approvals, and compliance documentation.
  • Team & Resource Management :
  • Ensure job sites are consistently clean, organized, and well-maintained to foster an efficient and productive work environment.

  • Oversee timecards for project personnel to ensure accurate billing and payroll through time-tracking systems (e.g., T-Sheets).
  • Conduct regular meetings with subcontractors and other stakeholders to review project status, resolve conflicts, and ensure alignment with overall project goals.
  • Cost Management & Budgeting :
  • Manage project budgets, track costs, and ensure resources are used efficiently.

  • Identify potential cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality or safety, and present alternatives for project execution.
  • Assist with managing change orders and evaluating their impact on project schedules and budgets.
  • Qualifications :

  • Experience :
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in construction project management, with at least 5 years in a senior or supervisory role overseeing multiple construction sites.

  • Strong background in managing and leading teams of superintendents and other on-site personnel.
  • Proven experience in overseeing large and complex construction projects, from start to finish.
  • In-depth knowledge of construction safety standards, building codes, and quality control procedures.
  • Skills & Competencies :
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage diverse teams and interact effectively with clients, subcontractors, and vendors.

  • Exceptional organizational and time-management abilities to juggle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • High attention to detail with a thorough understanding of construction processes, specifications, and contracts.
  • Ability to identify and resolve construction challenges quickly and efficiently.
  • Proficient in project management software (e.g., Procore, Buildertrend) and scheduling tools (e.g., Microsoft Project, Primavera).
  • Education & Certifications :
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field (preferred).

  • OSHA 30-hour or equivalent construction safety certification (required).
  • LEED or other sustainability certifications (preferred).
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Physical Requirements :

  • Ability to walk and inspect job sites, often in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and navigate construction environments (e.g., ladders, scaffolding, etc.).
  • Must be able to spend long hours on job sites, performing site walks and inspections.
