JOB SUMMARY SEASONAL LABORER:



Under the general supervision of the Transfer Station Facilities Manager, this position is responsible for performing a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled duties at the Transfer Station Facility in operations, maintenance, and repair activities. Also, responsible for complying with all safety rules and regulations related to Solid Waste.



PRINCIPAL JOB DUTIES SEASONAL LABORER :




  • Perform manual labor, such as bailing material for recycling, trash removal, and washing facility equipment.

  • Load and unload trucks or machinery.

  • Assist the public in using the facility, specifically with recycling.

  • Perform routine servicing of assigned equipment to ensure it is maintained in good working condition. Must be able to operate such equipment for duties as assigned by supervisor or manager.

  • May operate skid steer and other equipment as directed (with supervision).

  • Perform routine building maintenance, grounds maintenance, and custodial work as required.

  • Report present or anticipated problems in work areas.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.



MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS SEASONAL LABORER:



EDUCATION:



Completion of high school or GED equivalent.



EXPERIENCE SEASONAL LABORER :



Requires a level of knowledge and ability to handle basic principles and their application to tasks with limited assistance. Such a level is generally acquired with six (6) months of work experience as a laborer.



KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES SEASONAL LABORER:




  • Static Strength — The ability to exert maximum muscle force to lift, push, pull, or carry objects.

  • Multi-limb Coordination — The ability to coordinate two or more limbs (for example, two arms, two legs, or one leg and one arm) while sitting, standing, or lying down. It does not involve performing the activities while the whole body is in motion.

  • Trunk Strength — The ability to use your abdominal and lower back muscles to support part of the body repeatedly or continuously, without 'giving out' or fatiguing.




  • Manual Dexterity — The ability to quickly move your hand, your hand together with your arm, or your two hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects.

  • Recognize Mechanical Problems - Must be proficient in recognizing mechanical problems and making minor repairs to equipment.

  • Following Instructions - Must be able to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions and be able to perform manual labor for extended periods of time in all kinds of weather. Ability to accurately and effectively transmit and receive information necessary to accomplish goals and objectives, including effective written and oral communication; keeping customers, subordinates, peers, and supervisors informed; and listening.

  • Courtesy - Able to maintain courteous and effective working relationships with the public, County departments, co-workers, and other agencies



NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS SEASONAL LABORER :



Must have a valid Colorado motor vehicle driver's license with no restrictions



Must have a working telephone – can be either cell or home phone.



Must pass a background check: Criminal and Traffic



Conviction of a crime will not be an absolute bar to employment



Must pass a drug test



Required legal authorization to work - United States citizenship or legal authorization to work in the United States



PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently is required to stand for long periods of time, use hands and fingers to handle or feel, and reach with hands or arms. Additionally, the employee is required to: walk, bend, twist, stoop, kneel, crawl, or crouch. Must be able to respond to the customers' needs and perform tasks requiring extensive hand and eye coordination. Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a variety of machinery. The employee must frequently lift and/or move objects in a range from 25 up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Hearing voice conversation is essential to safe and effective job performance.

  • Must be 18 years or older to operate most equipment.

  • Work is generally performed outdoors. Employees in this position are exposed to all types of weather and non-weather conditions, exposure to extremes of temperatures, fumes, odors, dirt, dust, and wind. Ability to operate equipment of varying sizes and the ability to move quickly to avoid damage to one's body parts. Occasionally operate a County vehicle in poor driving conditions. Duties may require climbing and manual dexterity. The work environment may be stressful during peak activity periods demanding full attention and coordination of numerous tasks simultaneously.



POSSIBLE HEALTH RISKS SPECIFIC TO THIS POSITION:



This position has been determined to be an EXTREME exposure risk to 'biohazards' associated with blood-borne pathogens HIV (aids), HAV (Hepatitis A) virus, HBV (hepatitis B) virus, and air-borne transmissions of TB (tuberculosis). Members are advised that exposure to a 'biohazard' may result in severe illness or death. Members are required by Department policy to use protective equipment and clothing. Inoculation may be required to prevent or treat exposures to 'biohazards.' The County provides inoculation of HAV, HBV (Testing for TB), Chickenpox, Tdap (Tetanus, Diptheria, & Pertussis), Meningococcal, MMR (Measles, Mumps & Rubella), and Influenza. Some vaccinations are only required once in a lifetime, and you may be required to show documentation of the vaccine. Employees who decline to be vaccinated will need to sign a Declination
