Assist the teacher in the academic development of students; assist in the preparation and organization of classroom activities. Actively engage in actions that contribute to the overall mission and strategic plan of Clear Creek ISD.
Qualifications
Education/Certification/Licensure
- High school diploma or GED
- Educational Aide II certification
- 15 college hours or passing score on Paraprofessional Exam
Special Knowledge/Skills
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work well with children
- Ability to use general office equipment
- Possess common sense, patience, tolerance
- Knowledge of basic sign language preferred
Experience
- Verifiable experience working with children (e.g., daycare, Sunday school, sports, girls/boy scouts)
Major Responsibilities and Duties
- Support and assist the teacher or teaching team with teaching duties, including working in small groups or with individual students to conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher.
- Uphold and enforce school rules, administrative regulations, and state and local board policy.
- Reinforce appropriate behavior according to teacher’s plan and school plan as well as assist in classroom discipline and behavior management as developed by the ARD committee.
- Assist with administration and scoring of objective testing instruments or work assignments.
- Supervise students throughout the school day inside and outside the classroom.
- Keep the teacher informed of any special needs or problems, including behavior, of individual students.
- Administer to students with severe physical handicaps by lifting, feeding, cleaning, maintaining hygiene, and any other personal services that the student requires.
- Responsible for use of safe procedures of physical intervention with acting-out students.
- Implement individualized provision of positive and negative reinforcement for student behaviors.
- Assist in preparing, modifying, or adapting teaching materials or equipment to individual needs of students.
- Assist in inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
- Assist the teacher in keeping administrative records and preparing required reports.
- Participate in staff development training programs, faculty meetings, and special events as needed.
- Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
