Evergreen Waste Management, a small but growing trash collection company in Butler County, Kansas, is seeking a dedicated and dynamic Operations Manager to oversee daily operations and ensure seamless, efficient service delivery. The ideal candidate will have experience in waste management, logistics, or a related field, along with strong leadership, organizational, and customer service skills.
Key Responsibilities:
Staff Management:
- Hire, train, and supervise a team of drivers, waste collectors, and administrative personnel.
- Develop and manage staff schedules to ensure optimal coverage and operational efficiency.
- Conduct performance evaluations and handle employee relations and conflicts effectively.
Route and Fleet Management:
- Plan and optimize collection routes to enhance efficiency and reduce fuel consumption.
- Oversee the maintenance and repair of the fleet, ensuring all vehicles are in excellent working condition and comply with DOT and Kansas state regulations.
- Coordinate with mechanics and service providers for regular maintenance and emergency repairs.
- Fill in for drivers during contingent events or to transition to new drivers during growth periods.
Customer Service:
- Address customer inquiries, complaints, and service requests promptly and professionally.
- Implement customer feedback systems to continually improve service quality.
- Foster and maintain strong relationships with clients, ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction and retention.
Regulatory Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations related to waste management and the Department of Transportation, including disposal and recycling guidelines.
- Stay informed about regulatory changes and adjust company practices as needed.
Financial Management:
- Work with the finance manager to understand and meet budgeting objectives.
- Analyze efficiency and performance to implement cost-saving measures without compromising service quality.
Operational Efficiency:
- Develop and implement processes and procedures to enhance operational efficiency.
- Monitor and analyze performance metrics to identify areas for improvement.
- Introduce new technologies or systems to boost productivity and reduce costs.
Safety and Training:
- Ensure adherence to safety protocols and best practices to protect employees and the public.
- Conduct regular safety training sessions and drills for all staff.
- Investigate and address any safety incidents or accidents, implementing corrective measures as needed.
Inventory and Supplies Management:
- Manage inventory of supplies and equipment required for daily operations.
- Coordinate with suppliers to ensure timely procurement of materials and parts.
Waste Management Strategy:
- Work with CEO and business development manager to execute on new commercial contracts, municipality contracts, acquisitions, or current footprint growth.
Reporting and Documentation:
- Maintain accurate records of operations, including service logs, maintenance reports, and financial documentation.
- Prepare and present detailed reports on operational performance to upper management.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience in operations management, preferably within the waste management or logistics industry.
- Strong understanding of diesel/heavy-duty truck operation and maintenance.
- Strong leadership and staff management skills.
- Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities.
- In-depth knowledge of local, state, and DOT regulations.
- Financial acumen and experience in budgeting and cost management.
