The Clear Lake Environmental Research Center (CLERC) has an rare opportunity at the CLERC Lab! The CLERC Lab offers the service of analyzing drinking water, waste water, and unpotable water. The Lab is accredited through the California Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program (ELAP) and serves several local water and wastewater agencies as the only accredited water lab in Lake County.
We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Laboratory Coordinator to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will oversee the day-to-day laboratory operations, including conducting laboratory tests, reporting results, working closely with clients, serve as a courier for samples as needed, performing data entry and reporting tasks, and maintaining a safe and organized work environment. The successful candidate must possess a 4-year degree in the sciences and be able to pass the California Water Environmental Association's (CWEA) Laboratory Analyst Grade 1 test within 6 months of hire.
Responsibilities
1) Oversight and Management:
Oversees day-to-day lab operations.
Manages the lab’s schedule, resources, and workflows.
Conducts laboratory tests in compliance with TNI 2016 and ELAP requirements.
Supervises staff when appropriate.
2) Inventory and Procurement:
Maintains inventory of lab supplies and equipment.
Orders new materials and ensures timely restocking.
3) Training and Compliance:
Trains new staff or students on laboratory protocols, safety procedures, and equipment use when needed.
Ensures the lab complies with all relevant regulations and guidelines.
Oversee the completion of the accreditation proficiency tests (PTs).
Serves as the Lab’s liaison for CLERC’s Safety Program.
4) Equipment Maintenance:
Oversees the maintenance and calibration of lab equipment.
Coordinates repairs and service contracts when necessary.
5) Administrative Tasks:
Handles budgeting and reporting related to lab activities.
Creates and updates standard operating procedures (SOPs).
6) Liaison Role:
Acts as the point of contact between the Lab and external vendors, departments, or stakeholders.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
- 4-year college degree in chemistry, biology, environmental science, or related field required.
- Possession of a valid Class C California Driver’s License and current auto insurance required.
- California Water Environment Association (CWEA) Laboratory Grade 1 Certificate within 6 months of hire required.
- Manual dexterity and vision sufficient to manipulate laboratory glassware and equipment, take readings and record data required.
- 1 to 2 years of relevant work experience required.
- Able to stand for long periods of time on concrete laboratory floor.
- Creativity, sense of humor, “can do” spirit, collegiality, flexibility, strong desire to lead.
- Experience working in a laboratory setting is highly desirable.
