We are looking for a dedicated and detail-oriented Optometric Technician to join our optometry practice. The Optometric Technician will play a vital role in patient care, assisting the optometrist with examinations and procedures while ensuring an exceptional patient experience. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills and a passion for helping others.
Key Responsibilities:
- Greet and escort patients, ensuring a welcoming and comfortable environment.
- Collect and record medical histories, current medications, and relevant details.
- Conduct preliminary tests (e.g., autorefractor, IOP, retinal imaging, OCT, visual fields, lensometry) and document results in patient charts.
- Prepare instruments and assist the optometrist during exams, maintaining a sterile environment.
- Maintain, calibrate, and ensure proper functioning of diagnostic equipment.
- Provide contact lens training, order and restock trial lenses, order contact lenses, dispense contacts, and notify patients of arrivals.
- Educate patients on eye health, dry eye management, and at-home treatment protocols.
- Manage inventory for dry eye supplies, restock as needed, and ensure availability.
- Handle payments, co-payments, and insurance verification.
- Schedule appointments, update patient records, and ensure HIPAA compliance.
- Collaborate with the optometrist and team on treatment plans and smooth office operations.
- Provide backup for front desk duties during busy periods or staff absences.
- Participate in ongoing training to stay updated on industry practices and procedures.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 1 year experience in an ophthalmology or optometry setting.
- Knowledge of eye care procedures, equipment, and terminology.
- Proficiency in using electronic health record (EHR) systems and basic computer applications.
- Proven ability to effectively prioritize workload and handle multiple tasks simultaneously amidst frequent interruptions in a fast-paced environment
- Proficiency in computer skills (able to learn electronic health record systems)
- Effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Team player with a positive attitude and loves working with people
- Willingness to learn new skills and to contribute to our culture
- Must be available for a Full-Time position Monday through Friday, with occasional overtime required for patient care that runs over; No Weekends!
