Requirements
The Optical Technician is responsible for collecting and recording ocular and systemic patient histories, visual acuities, BP, IOP, Auto refractions, Manifest Refractions, performing external examinations, and dry-eye testing, as well as disease specific extra testing.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Collecting and recording patient medical history
- Instructing patients on post-operative care, medication use, contact lens care and exam expectations.
- Performing visual acuity testing, auto and Manifest Refractions (measurements for the glasses prescription), tonometry (measuring eye pressure)
- Measuring pupil size and reactivity
- Performing confrontational visual field testing, pachymetry (Corneal thickness measurement)
- Performing dry eye testing
- Participating in light cleaning of the facility
- Maintaining a sanitized environment
- Performing corneal topography, retinal nerve fiber layer measurements, retinal thickness and topography, fluorescein angiography, B-scan ultrasonography
- Assisting with contact lens fitting and instructing patients on insertion and removal of contacts.
- Preparing for and assisting with in-office procedures including consenting patients
Qualifications:
- Minimum of one year assisting in an Optical practice or as an Optometrist Assistant
- Ophthalmic experience a plus
