Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Virtualization Engineer to support mission-critical operations at Hanscom Air Force Base. This role requires a professional with deep expertise in VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF), virtualization architecture, and secure IT environments. You will be responsible for designing, deploying, managing, and troubleshooting complex virtualization infrastructures to ensure seamless operations for DoD systems.
This role demands a senior-level professional with leadership skills, capable of independently tackling challenges and optimizing virtualization performance in high-security environments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, implement, and manage highly available VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) environments, ensuring maximum performance, security, and scalability.
- Deploy, configure, and optimize vSphere, ESXi, NSX, and vSAN components in a high-security DoD environment.
- Perform advanced troubleshooting and root cause analysis to resolve complex virtualization issues
- Lead upgrades and patch management across all virtualization infrastructure while maintaining operational uptime.
- Ensure full compliance with DoD security policies and best practices, implementing hardening techniques and continuous security monitoring.
- Develop and maintain high-level documentation including system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting guides.
- Collaborate with key stakeholders, IT leaders, and cybersecurity teams to align virtualization strategy with mission objectives.
- Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior engineers and system administrators.
Preferred Qualifications:
- VMware Advanced Certifications (VCAP, VCDX) or equivalent
- Experience working in Air Force or DoD environments
- Hands-on experience with automation tools like Terraform, Ansible, or Puppet
- Strong knowledge of network security, firewall configurations, and zero-trust architecture
