Description
The Facility Maintenance position performs basic repairs and preventative maintenance throughout the South Terminal facility at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport. The Position handles routine maintenance tasks, basic repairs, and general upkeep of building facilities and equipment.
Note: This position is considered entry-level and does not require any certifications
Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:
Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
1. Perform daily building inspections to identify maintenance needs.
2. Complete basic repairs on doors, furniture, walls, and fixtures.
3. Handle routine plumbing maintenance, including unclogging drains, fixing leaky faucets, and basic pipe repairs.
4. Conduct basic electrical repairs such as replacing outlets, switches, and light fixtures.
5. Perform basic essential carpentry work, including repairs to walls, doors, and cabinets.
6. Assist with HVAC maintenance, including filter changes and essential preventative maintenance.
7. Complete painting projects and drywall repairs.
8. Use proper lifting techniques and equipment to move furniture and equipment safely.
9. Ensure that maintenance areas are organized and keep an inventory of supplies up to date.
10. Report significant issues to your supervisor and assist contractors when necessary.
11. Inspect and perform basic repairs on airport GSE, including boarding ramps, GPUs, and potable water cabinets.
12. Document all completed work orders and maintenance activities.
13. Assist in essential vehicle inspections and repairs, such as tire inflations and battery replacement, including golf carts and ATVs.
14. Monitor, diagnose, and repair baggage conveyance systems.
15. Obtains services of outside contractors when repairs require specialized training.
16. Assist with sterilization of airport property using fogging machines.
17. Performs general cleaning tasks in the facility.
18. Perform other tasks and duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the job's essential functions can be performed.
1. General maintenance experience preferred.
2. Skilled in the use of hand and power tools.
3. Ability to take apart machines, equipment, or devices to remove and replace defective parts.
4. Ability to check blueprints, repair manuals, or parts catalogs as necessary.
5. Ability to use standard tools such as hammers, hoists, saws, drills, and wrenches.
6. Experience with precision measuring instruments or electronic testing devices.
7. Experience performing routine maintenance.
8. Strong organizational and follow-up skills.
9. Eye for detail
10. Professional presentation and attitude.
11. Ability to maintain focus while working individually.
12. Strong time management skills.
Minimum Qualifications:
1. Experience in general preventative maintenance using hand tools
2. Experience in operations, logistics, and/or the transportation industry
3. Experience with inspections and writing reports
4. Valid Texas Class “C” Driver’s License
Must be able to pass a criminal background check and obtain and maintain federally mandated security clearances required to work at the City of Austin Bergstrom International Airport
Ability to obtain an Airport Security(SIDA) Badge
Physical Demands:
Climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
Heavy work. Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Licenses and Certifications Required:
Valid State of Texas Class "C" Driver License.
