Under direction, the purpose of the position is to establish rehabilitative programs for offenders as prescribed by the courts. Employees in this classification perform counseling work. Position is responsible for interviewing clients, establishing a rehabilitation program, monitoring client program compliance, maintaining records and preparing a variety of reports, coordinating programs with correctional institutions, law enforcement, schools and social service agencies. The employee monitors by telephone and in person client compliance with the established program goals including monetary restitution and community service work and evaluates client for compliance with program and institutional policies and conditions, court orders and for the intervention’s effectiveness. Performs related work as directed.
Duties Include:
Interviewclients, victims, police and any other individuals with knowledge of the offender. Prepares pre-sentencing investigation report, calculates and makes recommendations for sentencing based on guidelines and attends court for sentencing and acts as witness if necessary.
Establish and coordinates rehabilitation programs for eligible inmates. Monitors inmate activity and behavior to determine effectiveness of rehabilitative sentences.
Evaluate client compliance with court orders and institutional guidelines to determine merits of release on parole.
Maintain case records and reports for department and/or court and documents all contacts. Obtains and logs all relevant documents and evidence for corresponding case. Performs drug and alcohol testing on detainees and inmates with rehabilitative sentences.
Coordinate all programs with local law enforcement, schools and/or social service agencies. Works in unison with external program staff and institutional staff to establish effective re-entry plans. Prepares reports for department director, court and/or appropriate agency.
Calculate effective dates of sentences, credit time, and dates of parole. Produces and processes documents related to Probation/Parole and reviews such documents with respective inmates.
Investigate suitability of home plans, and available housing options by interviewing inmates, family and associates, both in-person and through alternative means.
