Job Title : General Manager Operations & Supply Chain
Location : Farmingdale NY
Reports To : CEO
Position Overview :
We are seeking a highly motivated and results-driven General Manager to oversee the operational efficiency and supply chain management of a leading custom machining company specializing in CNC grinding, milling, EDM, and multi-axis mill turning for aerospace, defense, medical, and commercial industries. The successful candidate will play a key role in streamlining production processes, optimizing inventory management, and ensuring that procurement is both cost-effective and timely.
Key Responsibilities :
Operations Management :
- Lead and manage day-to-day operations in manufacturing, including CNC grinding, milling, EDM, and multi-axis mill turning processes.
- Ensure high standards of quality control, safety, and productivity in the shop floor operations.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency and reduce cycle times.
- Develop and implement strategies to meet production goals while maintaining cost and quality standards.
- Collaborate with engineering and technical teams to ensure production capabilities align with customer specifications.
- Establish and track key performance indicators (KPIs) for operations, reporting to executive leadership on results.
Supply Chain & Procurement :
Oversee the procurement of raw materials, tools, and other components required for production, ensuring that the companys supply chain remains robust and agile.Develop strong relationships with key suppliers and vendors, negotiating favorable contracts and managing supplier performance.Optimize inventory levels to ensure that materials are available when needed without tying up excess capital.Implement inventory tracking systems to maintain accurate records of raw materials, finished products, and tools.Coordinate with production teams to align procurement and inventory levels with manufacturing schedules.Ensure timely delivery of materials and parts, avoiding production delays and maintaining lead times in alignment with customer expectations.Team Leadership & Development :
Lead, mentor, and develop a team of production and procurement professionals.Promote a culture of safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement.Ensure team members receive appropriate training and support to perform their roles efficiently.Foster a collaborative environment between operations, engineering, and other key departments to meet company objectives.Budgeting & Cost Control :
Develop and manage operational and procurement budgets, identifying cost-saving opportunities across all areas of production and supply chain.Ensure that cost management practices are adhered to, identifying any variances and making necessary adjustments.Contribute to long-term financial planning and forecasting based on operational needs and material costs.Compliance & Risk Management :
Ensure compliance with industry-specific regulations (e.g., aerospace, defense) and quality standards.Manage risks associated with supply chain disruptions, ensuring contingency plans are in place.Monitor and address any issues related to material shortages, quality control, or delivery delays.Qualifications :
Experience : At least 7-10 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, with a strong focus on operations and supply chain management. Experience in aerospace, defense, or medical industries preferred.Education : Bachelors degree in Operations Management, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, or a related field. MBA or relevant certifications (e.g., Six Sigma, APICS) a plus.Skills :Strong understanding of CNC machining processes (grinding, milling, EDM, multi-axis turning).Proven track record of optimizing supply chain processes and inventory management.Excellent negotiation, communication, and vendor relationship skills.Ability to analyze data and make data-driven decisions.Strong leadership and team management abilities.Experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, or other supply chain management tools) is a plus.Key Attributes :
