Job Overview
Clearfinity Eyecare Optometrist is seeking a part-time (4 days a week) dedicated and detail-oriented Optometric Technician to join our team. In this role, you will support optometrists in providing high-quality eye care services to patients. You will be responsible for assisting with various clinical tasks, ensuring a smooth and efficient workflow within the clinic, and delivering exceptional customer service. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of anatomy related to eye health and have experience in a retail or clinical setting.
Responsibilities
- Assist optometrist during eye examinations by preparing patients and equipment.
- Ensure that the exam room is fully stocked, computers and instruments turned on in the beginning of the day.
- Using a laptop, document patient reason for visit and provide a thorough case history. List or update medications patients are taking. Identify if the patient needs a routine vs a medical exam.
- Create appropriate exam and refraction code in the system.
- Conduct preliminary tests such as autorefraction, autolensometry, visual acuity, color vision, and stereo testing.
- Conduct additional medical/screening testing such as retinal imaging, optical coherence tomography (OCT), Visual Fields, Topography, and Neurolens Testing.
- Maintain patient records in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Educate patients on contact lens types, dry eye procedures, types of eyeglasses that could help patients based on their needs, and benefits of screening tests
- Handle eye exam and contact lens orders and sales transactions and manage contact lens inventory (replacement of trial contact lenses)
- Train patients in inserting and removing soft or hard contact lenses.
- Work well with patients of all ages (especially children).
- Ensure the clinic is clean, organized, and adheres to aseptic techniques. Organize the empty exam room between patients.
- Provide support in pediatric eye care as needed.
- Prep patients for dry eye procedure and clear exam room after.
- Turn off computers and exam room equipment and all other equipment at end of the day. Cover all equipment.
- Goal is to aid in increasing the efficiency of the doctor.
- Collaborate with the team to enhance patient experience and satisfaction.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of anatomy related to the ocular system is essential.
- Experience in a clinical or optical setting is preferred.
- Familiarity with medical coding practices is a plus.
- Strong sales skills with an understanding of retail math.
- Ability to work effectively within a team environment while also being self-motivated.
- Excellent communication skills for interacting with patients of all ages.
- Understanding of HIPAA regulations to maintain patient confidentiality.
- Experience working with pediatric patients is advantageous but not required.
