Job Summary: The Compounding Pharmacy Technician will play a crucial role in assisting pharmacists with the preparation and formulation of non-sterile compounded medications. The technician will ensure that all compounded products meet quality standards and comply with regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
Compounding and Preparation:
- Assist pharmacists in preparing non-sterile compounded medications based on physician prescriptions and established protocols.
- Measure, mix, and compound medications using appropriate techniques and equipment.
- Follow detailed formulations to ensure accuracy and consistency
- Quality Control and Assurance:
- Conduct initial quality checks on compounded products, including visual inspections and documentation.
- Ensure all compounded products meet safety, efficacy, and quality standards before release.
- Document all compounding activities accurately, including batch numbers, ingredient sources, and preparation procedures.
- Inventory and Supply Management:
- Monitor inventory levels of raw materials, excipients, and other supplies necessary for non-sterile compounding.
- Assist in the ordering, receiving, and storage of compounding ingredients and materials.
- Ensure proper handling and storage of all compounds and raw materials to maintain quality.
- Patient and Provider Interaction:
- Assist in preparing medication orders and provide support to pharmacists in answering questions from patients and healthcare providers.
- Ensure accurate labeling and packaging of compounded products with clear instructions for use.
- Compliance and Documentation:
- Adhere to USP 795 and other regulatory guidelines in all compounding activities.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of compounding procedures, inventory, and quality control measures.
- Participate in regular training and continuing education to stay current with industry standards and practices.
Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Completion of a pharmacy technician training program is preferred.
- Experience: Previous experience in a pharmacy setting, particularly with compounding non-sterile medications
- Certification: Certification from a recognized pharmacy technician certification board (e.g., PTCB or NHA) is preferred.
- Skills:
- Strong attention to detail and precision in compounding and measuring.
- Good organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent communication skills for interacting with pharmacy staff
Preferred Experience:
- Experience compounding non-sterile or sterile preparations in a USP lab environment.
- Proficient in using computers and navigating various software applications relevant to pharmacy operations
- Shipping/Packing
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand for extended periods (8 hours) and perform tasks requiring manual dexterity.
- Capacity to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds as needed.
- On-site attendance. This position is not a remote position
- Employees must wear designated PPE at all times in required areas or when performing specific tasks.
