Where you will work:
The Augusta mill sits along the Savannah River, on the state border between Georgia and South Carolina and manufactures light, medium, and heavyweight coated paperboard. It is a well-invested SBS paperboard manufacturing facility with approximately 600 thousand tons of capacity.  This facility boasts over 700 employees and has been in operation for almost 65 years.  Located on 3,000 acres, the Augusta site operates two paper machines that produce 1,940 tons per day.  The Augusta Mill is Clearwater Paper’s largest paperboard facility and is critical to the success of our strategy and future.

What you will do:
The Sr. Environmental Engineer will be Augusta Mill’s Air Emissions Specialist providing air subject matter expertise to the following duties:

  • Reviews auditing and testing reports for electronic and hard copy submission; sharing relevant findings with management and preparing Management of Change (MOC) for new emissions parameters.
  • Prepares air quality permit applications and environmental impact reports.
  • Ability to perform air emission calculations, using mass-balance methods, engineering judgment, AP-42 emission factors, etc.
  • Liaise with regulatory agencies on complex issues to provide support and guidance on achieving regulatory compliance and interpretation of air regulations
  • Schedules all Title V testing with the GA EPD and coordinating with the appropriate operational areas.
  • Owns movement of MACT reporting from Proficy to CEMLink platform; collaborating with Process Control, Operations, and platform engineers to ensure that all process equations used for MACT and Title V reporting are correctly migrated.
  • Manages compliance on at least one of the primary disciplines of water, air or solid waste with a preference for Title V experience.
  • Evaluates significance of hazards and determines proper disposal and management methods.
  • Recommends actions to reduce pollution to levels that conform to local, state, or federal regulations.
  • Manages consultants and associated budgets for RATAs, stack testing, CEMS monitoring, LDARs.
  • Develop air emission estimates for industrial processes and related operations.
  • Provides support of capital projects for air permitting assistance. 
  • Liaise with regulatory agencies and outside consultants on complex issues.
  • Manages Universal and Hazardous Wastes and Used Oil programs.
  • DOT signee for hazardous materials shipments.
  • Handles difficult problems and refers more complex issues to upper-level management.
  • Drives continuous improvement opportunities including system development
  • Promotes employee engagement to achieve desired results
  • Maintains complex environmental permitting and regulatory tracking.
  • Willingness to learn operations specific to testing in various departments.

What you will need: 

  • BS Degree in Environmental Science, Engineering or related or chemistry.
  • Minimum of 5 years demonstrated practical/technical experience
  • DOT and RCRA certified
  • PSM and RMP experience
  • Understanding of storm water and wastewater permits and reporting requirements.
  • Direct manufacturing experience preferred
  • Previous on-site working experience, in an integrated Pulp and Paper mill with experience in the Kraft liquor cycle preferred
  • Stack testing experience
  • Frequent, bending, stooping, squatting, as well as frequent movement throughout the facility for extended periods of time
  • Occasional Lifting up to 20 lbs.
  • Reading computer screen or other electronic devices.
  • Use of various office, hand tools or electrical equipment
  • Personal Protective Equipment required in mill environment.
  • Exposure to airborne particles and times of increased heat and humidity.
  • High speed manufacturing environment, sustained exposure to high frequency noises
  • Available to work on-call during select weekends.
