What are the responsibilities and job description for the Dermatology Assistant position at Cleaver Dermatology?
Summary/Objective: The Dermatology Assistant works in concert with other nursing staff to provide patient care by maintaining patient rooms, rooming patients, assisting with medical procedures, and charting.
Essential Functions:
· Performs patient rooming, interviewing patients and asking pertinent questions to obtain detailed patient history including; updating medication lists and any and all treatments, medical conditions and changes for existing patients.
· Strictly adheres to all guidelines for HIPAA security and confidentiality and maintains professionalism when interacting with all patients and staff.
· Assists doctors and residents with procedures.
· Becomes an expert in our EMR system, becoming intimately familiar with the program and any and all updates to ensure patient information is transcribed accurately and with great detail.
· Knowledgeable of common dermatology diagnosis and treatments.
· Asks for support from superiors when needed.
· Communicates clearly with Physicians and other nursing staff to ensure accurate documentation.
· Stocks and maintains cleanliness of patient exam rooms and lab.
· Travels to satellite clinics in rural areas.
· Performs procedures such as UNNA boot applications, PDT, UVB, etc.
· Performs patient counseling verbally and distributes correlating handouts or pamphlets as needed and documents information distributed in the chart.
· Prepares chemicals and maintains equipment used in the storage of chemicals including, but not limited to Metricide, Kenalog, and surgical detergent when qualified to do so.
· Washes and sterilizes instruments.
· Follows all policies for safety and health, accident and incident reporting to maintain a safe work environment.
· Demonstrates knowledge of and supports Cleaver Dermatology standards, policies, and procedures, confidentiality standards, and the code of ethical behavior.

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Work Environment
This job operates in a professional, medical office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Additionally, staff will be handling chemicals exercising all safety measures and will be trained to use various specialized medical equipment.
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Must have the ability to travel independently throughout the practice to access information from other departments. Must have the ability to stand for long periods of time, sit, bend, twist and turn to assist patients up, in and out of exam rooms. Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds without restrictions if necessary.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position, and business hours are Monday through Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The Dermatology Assistants must have the flexibility to come in slightly early and work later as needed to satisfy patient needs and to accommodate travel days. Travel days will include drive time from travel clinic back to the office.
Some flexibility in hours is allowed, but the employee must be available during the “core” work hours and must be scheduled work 36 hours each week to maintain full-time status.
Travel
Our staff do travel to rural outreach clinic sites at least twice per week. All staff are expected to share this responsibility equally and as a team. This is a requirement of the position.
Required Education and Experience
High School Diploma or Equivalent
Preferred Education and Experience
One year or more working as a medical assistant in a clinic.
