- Engineer II Transmission Operations Support
- is a professional with working knowledge and experience in electrical engineering. Working knowledge of a transmission Energy Management System (EMS) for support, planning, and design is necessary to succeed in this role. Supports & recommends improvement to the EMS to enhance transmission operations, including architecture, design, and implementation of advanced applications such as the State Estimator (SE), alarming prioritization, outage management tools, situation awareness tools (mapboard & historian graphs), and associated Network Applications (Real-Time Contingency Analysis, Dispatcher Load Flow, etc.).
- Key Responsibilities

- Performs advanced engineering tasks of varying complexity which include developing, testing, and implementing applications to extend functionality of the EMS and automation logic to improve the safety and operational efficiency of Clecos transmission grid.
- Troubleshoots EMS operations between internal customers and field operational personnel for all primary and ancillary systems.
- Monitors and improves the operation of the EMS to fully support transmission operations through automation and enhancements.
- Performs security monitoring and incident response of cyber security events for proper determination of being considered a cybersecurity event.
- Investigates new cyber threats and vulnerabilities with the potential to impact the monitored environment.
- Responsible for system administration of the technical applications and configuration management of grid control computer systems; database administration of associated databases (including storage systems / networks), optimizes and tunes security monitoring and detection rules and thresholds to improve fidelity of alerts specific to the EMS system.
- Trains new team members and provides input to employee performance evaluations
- Supports supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA), Inter-Control Center Communications Protocol (ICCP), alarm prioritization, advanced fault location calculations & analysis, advanced power engineering calculations for operations, and network modeling.
- Influence the strategic direction of the EMS advanced applications and supporting systems to meet changing business needs & objectives.
- Assists in training less experienced personnel to perform routine tasks
- Qualifications
- Required Education, Skills & Experience
- Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited curriculum or with NCEES Certification to sit for the FE
- 3-5 years of related experience
- Step progression levels based on skill proficiency and scope of job.
- Strong business acumen pertaining to the Utility industry
- Strong knowledge of leading practices in OT
- Strong planning and project management skills
- Willingness and ability to learn new technologies on the job
- Knowledge of cyber security, enterprise networks and processes
- Proficient at functioning effectively within a team environment, present ideas and opinions in a respective and collegial manner
- Progression to this level is strictly restricted based on critical individual capabilities and business requirements; must be supported by market survey data.
