We are looking for a detail-oriented Sanitation Safety Specialist to oversee sanitation and safety protocols in our meat processing facility. In this role, you will ensure compliance with industry regulations, conduct facility inspections, train employees on proper sanitation practices, and collaborate with various departments to maintain a clean and safe work environment.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement sanitation and safety policies tailored to the meat packing industry, ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements, company standards, and industry best practices.
- Perform routine inspections of the facility, production lines, and equipment to identify potential sanitation and safety risks, taking immediate corrective action when necessary.
- Provide training and education to employees on proper sanitation procedures, including the correct use of cleaning chemicals, personal protective equipment (PPE), and safe chemical handling.
- Ensure strict adherence to lockout/tag out procedures for machinery maintenance and repairs, conducting regular safety assessments to minimize the risk of accidents and injuries.
- Monitor and enforce compliance with sanitation and safety protocols through scheduled audits, offering timely feedback and coaching to employees as needed.
- Investigate sanitation and safety-related incidents, accidents, or near-misses, and implement preventative measures to mitigate future risks.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams, including production, quality assurance, and maintenance, to promote effective sanitation and safety measures throughout the facility.
- Maintain comprehensive records of sanitation activities, such as cleaning schedules, inspection reports, and training documentation, to demonstrate compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Stay informed about industry regulations, emerging trends, and best practices related to sanitation, workplace safety, and food handling in the meat packing sector.
- Lead regular training sessions on key topics, including cleaning techniques, sanitation protocols, safe machinery operation, and chemical handling procedures.
- Assist in developing and executing hygiene and sanitation programs designed to enhance cleanliness and reduce contamination risks in meat packing operations.
- Take part in both internal and external sanitation and safety audits, working alongside regulatory agencies to resolve any non-compliance concerns.
- Coordinate with suppliers and vendors to ensure the quality, effectiveness, and safety of cleaning chemicals, sanitation equipment, and PPE used in the facility.
Qualifications:
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required; additional certifications or training in sanitation, safety, or food handling are a plus.
- Demonstrated experience in a sanitation or safety role within a meat packing facility or a similar food processing environment.
- In-depth understanding of sanitation practices, cleaning methods, and chemical safety specific to meat processing operations.
- Knowledge of industry regulations and standards, such as USDA and OSHA, related to sanitation, workplace safety, and food handling in meat packing.
- Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to spot potential hazards or compliance issues in a fast-paced production setting.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively train employees on sanitation procedures, safe equipment operation, and handling of hazardous chemicals.
- Ability to work independently, make sound decisions, and manage priorities in a high-demand, time-sensitive environment.
- Hands-on experience using sanitation equipment, cleaning agents, and personal protective gear specific to meat packing operations.
- Basic computer proficiency for maintaining records, documentation, and analyzing data.
- Physical endurance with the ability to lift heavy items, bend, stoop, and stand for long periods.
