General Assistant Teacher Job Description:
The Co-Teacher/Assistant Teacher is responsible for the overall care, wellbeing, and encouragement of all children in their care. He/She partners with the Lead Teacher in planning, upholding the guidelines of the ITERS/ECERS/state regulations/director and church expectations. In addition, they are expected to follow the NAEYC code of ethical conduct and statement of commitment, implement a developmentally appropriate daily program in the classroom while providing a safe, nurturing, and loving environment for children.
Qualifications, Education & Experience:
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Early Childhood Credential, EC Certificate or Associate Degree in Early Childhood preferred (if you don't have, willing to complete NCECC)
- Minimum 2 years’ experience working in a licensed childcare center preferred
- Minimum of 1 year experience working in a licensed childcare center required*
- Current training in First Aid, CPR, SIDS preferred
Conditions of Employment:
- Provide written health and medical requirements, including Tuberculosis test results and physical as required by NC Childcare Law.
- Criminal Record Qualification Letter from NC Division of Child Development
- Positive employment recommendation(s)
- Dependable transportation
Physical Requirements & Abilities
- Lift up to 20lbs on a regular basis to include lifting children weighing up to 50 pounds as needed
- Perform physical activities that require considerable use of your arms, legs, and moving your whole body, such as sitting, lifting, balancing, walking, crawling, stooping, and handling of materials
- Have mobility to ensure the safety of the children
- Perform light cleaning duties
- Work outdoors in any variety of weather
- Have visual and hearing capabilities consistent with child care licensing safety requirements
- Ability to move and act quickly to a variety of situations and/or circumstances.
- Willing and able to provide children with assistance in dealing with issues such as behavioral challenges, personal hygiene, medical needs, toileting, diapering, lifting, writing, and feeding.
