Summary

CCDC seeks a Teacher for a SC First Steps 4K class who is a highly self-motivated individual willing to work hard as part of a team to prepare four-year-olds to enter kindergarten. The position requires an active and outgoing, kind and committed person who will participate in every important aspect of early childhood development. This person will demonstrate, through a commitment to doing the job with integrity, an understanding of the important role an early childhood teacher plays in the development of a child’s brain and overall health and well-being. The position requires a solutions-oriented perspective. This highly active and mobile position supports the daily operations of the Center. This person will demonstrate a high-level of professionalism and a willingness to support other staff in the CCDC School Family in meeting the standards set forth by SC First Steps, DSS, DHEC, CACFP, and the ABC Quality rating scale. This position collaborates with other teachers in providing a positive, active, and motivated standard of professionalism and excellence in the education and care of the children and families served. 


Duties

Professionalism

·        Create an account with SC Endeavors

·        Register for the SC Endeavors Career Ladder

·        Attend all required SC First Steps training

·        Obtain a minimum of 15 hours of training per year in accordance with DSS regulations

·        Obtain a minimum of 5 hours of training per year in accordance with ABC guidelines

·        Obtain 15 hours of training in Health and Safety (if new to an ABC school)


  • Obtain Infant/Child CPR and First Aid Certification (CCDC will provide, if not yet achieved)

·        Participate in all Conscious Discipline (CD) trainings

·        Be present in accordance with CCDC attendance policies

·        Arrive to work punctually and prepared

·        Attend and participate in scheduled staff meetings, required training, teacher workdays, special events

·        Effectively utilize CCDC Outlook email and SLACK to communicate with CCDC administration and other members of CCDC Staff/School Family

·        Respond to communication from CCDC administration and other staff on CCDC Outlook email and SLACK in a timely manner

·        Be able to carry out procedures in Employee and Parent Handbooks

·        Present and conduct self in a professional manner in terms of appearance, attitude, attire, conduct and verbal interactions

·        Address assignments given by Supervisor/Program Director/Executive Director in a Positive Manner

·        Demonstrate participation in professional development activities, training, and staff meetings

·        Adhere to CCDC Code of Ethics as stipulated in the Employee Handbook

·        Be able to lift 30 lbs.

·        Develop a working knowledge and experience with DSS and DHEC regulations

·        Be able to carry out procedures in any emergency, whether involving a child, an adult, a group, or the Center facility

·        Maintain environmental safety and cleanliness in compliance with all DSS/DHEC regulations/requirements

·        Actively demonstrate awareness of child supervision requirements while providing

·        “responsive caregiving” to individual children and to the group as a whole during varied activities

·        Maintain classroom to reflect ABC guidelines for discovery and use of accessible materials, keeping it safe, organized, and age-appropriate

·        Be able to assist children with bathroom routines in accordance with DSS and DHEC regulations

·        Communicate Staff/Parent/Child/Teacher/Operational Issues and Information to Supervisor/Program Director/Executive Director in a positive manner

·        Set a positive tone while creating an emotionally safe environment for students, families, and CCDC colleagues

Practices

·        Acquire a working knowledge of SC First Steps practices and employ them in developing curriculum, teaching, and interacting with students, parents, and colleagues

·        Develop a working knowledge and experience with ABC Quality Intentional Teaching Tools

·        Be able to ensure CCDC compliance with all ABC guidelines

·        Demonstrate and utilize knowledge of basic child development to assess individual student development and plan instruction for appropriate learning objectives

·        Train, mentor, and supervise Teacher Assistant and/or Teacher Assistant-Floater in all aspects of job performance and execution of DSS and DHEC requirements, ABC guidelines, and CCDC Policies and Procedures while coordinating all classroom activities to accomplish instructional goals, classroom management, and assessment

·        Plan and implement age-appropriate opportunities specifically chosen to promote development in the cognitive, social, emotional, and physical domains

·        Demonstrate comprehension of “indicators” of high-quality care and education in relation to ABC Intentional Teaching Tools through consistent use of intentional practices in meeting individual students’ developmental needs

·        Be willing and able to substitute in any classroom and follow job descriptions of other teachers

·        Be knowledgeable of different classroom routines and procedures

·        Utilize different modalities to communicate information concerning individual student development, progress, and/or behavior

·        Communicate information concerning individual student development and/or behavior professionally and maintain confidentiality

·        Effectively utilize iCare via the classroom iPad to communicate with parents regarding student needs and progress, sharing daily activities, photos, and progress updates

·        Demonstrate a clear understanding of CCDC Discipline Policy and a willingness to practice it

·        Be able to lift 30 lbs.

·        Be able to work independently without direct and continuous supervision

·        Demonstrate a willingness to learn and grow as a professional early childhood educator

Connection

·        Develop a working knowledge of Conscious Discipline (CD) methods and use them to foster connections with students, families, and staff and to support the CCDC School Family

·        Cultivate nurturing connections with individual students to foster an environment where each student feels safe both emotionally and physically

·        Use appropriate language and tone of voice in communications with children

·        Foster and encourage appropriate student self-regulation in various activities, environments and transitions

·        Cooperate with and assist all staff/teachers in a positive manner

·        Actively interact with children and participate in activities

·        Be able to maintain classroom management for various age groups using CD practices

·        Communicate with all staff, parents, children, and Board members in a positive manner

Responsibilities:

·        Follow all CCDC Employee policies and procedures; request Supervisor/Director clarification as needed

·        Follow and support all CCDC Parent policies and procedures, requesting Director support as necessary

·        Substitute in classrooms and provide breaks for teachers when necessary if/when assigned by Supervisor/Program Director/Executive Director

·        Assist in completing/maintaining student attendance and meal records, student/teacher ABC ratios, and DSS tracking sheets

·        Effectively utilize iCare via iPad to communicate with parents by sharing daily activities, photos, and progress updates

·        Effectively utilize CCDC Outlook email and SLACK to communicate with CCDC administration and other members of CCDC Staff/School Family

·        Maintain an active/mobile role in all locations and settings; always remain present and engaged

  • Follow classroom schedule, expectations, and lesson plans, implementing age-appropriate curriculum as assigned (The Creative Curriculum for Infants & Toddlers/Preschool, Conscious Discipline, SCPITC, and Handwriting Without Tears)
  • Collaborate and cooperate with colleagues to foster positive contributions to the CCDC School Family to promote a healthy system

·        Actively participate in meal service (family style meals when possible); guide student behavior in cafeteria or classroom and during clean-up from meals or snacks

·        Actively supervise Outdoor Learning Spaces activity, monitor for safety, and assist children with social interactions using Conscious Discipline principles

·        Assist fellow staff to process laundry—wash/dry/fold as needed

·        Ensure your classroom has ample supplies for daily operations

·        Maintain cleanliness of classroom, screened-in porch, and outdoor learning spaces while guiding children to take care of equipment, toys, and learning materials

·        Follow opening procedures and/or closing procedures as required

·        Attend and participate in scheduled staff meetings and required training or teacher workdays

  • Cooperate in a professional manner with supervisors including the Executive Director, Program Director, Supervisor and the SC First Steps Regional Coordinator. 
  • Attend all CCDC mandatory trainings for Conscious Discipline (CD), Creative Curriculum, SCPITC, and Handwriting Without Tears (HWOT) as assigned

Requirements

·        Associate or Bachelor’s degree in early childhood development or early childhood education (ECE)

·        2-3 years of experience in a Licensed child-care facility

  • Pediatric CPR and First Aid Certification
  • Completion of college course ECD 101
  • Experience with SC First Steps, The Creative Curriculum for Infants & Toddlers/Preschool; SC Program for Infant & Toddler Care (SCPITC); Conscious Discipline (CD); Handwriting Without Tears (HWOT)
  • Experience working in a play-based environment

·        A minimum of an Associate Degree in early childhood development or related field. Teachers possessing a two-year degree must be enrolled and demonstrating progress toward the completion of a teacher education program within 4 years

·        Must agree to attend SC First Steps training and receive certification through the SC First Steps Program 

·        Must have a minimum of 6 months experience in a Licensed child-care facility

·        Must be able to work in an active, highly mobile position

·        Must be able to take instructions from Supervisor, Program Director and/or Executive Director

·        Must clear full background check per SC DSS requirements


  • Must pass health screening per SC DSS requirements
  • Must be able to sit on the floor with children and be able to get up quickly.
  • Must be able to lift 30 lbs.

Nice To Haves

Prior experience in preschool education.

Familiarity with The Creative Curriculum for Preschool.

Familiarity with the ABC Quality Rating & Improvement System.
