The Department of Art at Clemson University is pleased to invite applications for a full-time tenure-track position in Printmaking at the rank of Assistant Professor to teach across undergraduate and graduate studio art courses to begin service August 15, 2025.

We seek a candidate possessing a robust knowledge of technique, theory, and history of art practice to contribute to our nationally accredited undergraduate and graduate coursework in Printmaking, and a strong research agenda with active exhibition record. Faculty participate in team teaching activities, with other coursework possible according to the candidate’s qualifications. The average teaching load in the department is 3/3, with variation based on research activity.

Further responsibilities include comprehensive knowledge of current studio art health and safety practices, the management and oversight of all aspects of the printmaking studio, advising undergraduate and graduate students, and service to the department, college, university, and profession. The ideal candidate would demonstrate through their portfolio and CV that they are conversant in both traditional and contemporary practices in Art and Printmaking. Competence in professional print production, emerging technical and digital applications and an interest in collaborating with other disciplines is desirable.

The Department of Art at Clemson University, in the College of Architecture, Art and Construction, offers the Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA), the Bachelor of Arts in Art (BA), and the Master of Fine Arts (MFA) professional degree. Clemson University’s Art & Design curriculum is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD). The Department of Art has over 130 undergraduate majors, 100 art minors and up to 18 MFA students enrolled in our visual arts programs. The size allows the faculty to frequently conduct team critiques, which maximizes an interdisciplinary exchange of ideas and methods that arise within individual studio disciplines — Digital Art & Design Media, Studio Art & Art History concentrations in the BA Art program, Ceramics, Drawing, Graphic Design, Painting, Photography, Printmaking, and Sculpture concentrations in the BFA program, and Ceramics, Drawing, Painting, Photography, Printmaking and Sculpture in the MFA program. Students in the Department of Art learn and work in well-equipped studio facilities, and we have an ideal average student-to-teacher ratio of 1-to-12 or better.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

An M.F.A. in Studio Art with an emphasis in Printmaking or closely related field.

Preferred Qualifications

A minimum of three years of university-level teaching experience beyond graduate school.

Further Requirements

A vision towards integrating contemporary printmaking practices inclusive of traditional analog and expanded media within our dynamic team-taught undergraduate and graduate degree programs.

Robust knowledge of technique, theory, and history of printmaking. Full knowledge of current health and safety practices to enhance and maintain the Printmaking studio, which includes multiple presses, digital scanners, large format printers, and a laser engraver.

Promise to achieve a record of creative research at the forefront of printmaking and contemporary art practices congruent with Clemson’s standing as a Carnegie R1 Doctoral Universities with very high research activity.

Ability to teach graduate and undergraduate students in an interdisciplinary studio arts program.

Ability to work in a collaborative environment, participate in departmental and institutional committee service, and attend scheduled departmental and student activities.

Ability to develop and sustain a positive working relationship with faculty, staff, administrators, students, alumni and the local community.
