Description

The new Harvey S. Peeler Jr. College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) at Clemson University is seeking applicants for a full-time faculty position to lead the development and implementation of the first year of the DVM curriculum. The primary responsibilities of this position are focused on teaching and service with substantial opportunities for research and scholarship if desired. Academic rank would be commensurate with experience.

The Clinical Physiology faculty will play a vital role in developing and delivering the first year of the curriculum for the next generation of veterinarians for the state of SC. The Healthy Animal course series is team-taught and focuses on the normal anatomy, physiology and diagnostic imaging of domestic animal species. Utilizing the classroom, anatomy lab, live animals, simulation models and teaching technology, this faculty member will provide students with applicable and clinically based education in these areas, preparing them to progress into more advanced coursework. Working collaboratively with other faculty and staff, the content in this course series will align with the coursework occurring simultaneously in the Clinical Skills and Professional Development courses in the first year of the DVM program. This faculty member will help ensure students achieve proficiency in all necessary pre-clinical competencies.

Overview Of Clemson And The CVM

Located in South Carolina’s beautiful and fast-growing upstate, Clemson University is the land-grant university of South Carolina and ranks among the country’s top 50 national public universities in the U.S. News & World Report. The University has nearly 23,400 students (including nearly 18,600 undergraduates) who can select from 80 undergraduate and 110 graduate degree programs. Clemson employs over 1,150 full-time faculty and has an annual budget expenditure of over $900 million. Clemson University maintains its status as an R1 research university while maintaining a strong focus on undergraduate education.

The CVM is currently seeking accreditation by the American Veterinary Medicine Association to offer the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree to approximately 80 students per cohort starting in 2026 (pending approval). The CVM plans to utilize a partial distributive model of education for students’ fourth year clinical experience. Its brand-new state of the art main campus will reside in Pendleton, SC, near the T. Ed Garrison Arena, will house research and teaching labs, and utilize both ambulatory services as well as teaching sites at the Clemson University Equine Center, Lamaster Dairy Cattle Center, and other locations for education in the field.

In 2023, the Board of Trustees approved Clemson Elevate, the university’s new strategic plan. Clemson Elevate is built on 3 pillars: deliver the #1 student experience, double research by 2035, and transform lives statewide and beyond. The College of Veterinary Medicine was named in Clemson Elevate as a strategic priority for the university, demonstrating the importance of the new college to the future of the university and the state. It’s never been a better time to come to South Carolina for veterinary medical education, and we’re excited to attract a team of top talent as we build the new college.
