- The Contract may be extended if work demand requires.

Job Description :
Working on a dedicated Software Applications Development Team producing mission-critical software for State Agencies, using the latest industry-leading Agile development methodologies. The person will be a key contributor to software application development and maintenance projects.This position is a Java-based, Senior Web Applications Developer that belongs to Agile DevOps Team(s) and performs all Developer roles on large, complex system functions and products. This position requires advanced knowledge, skills, and abilities in application coding, technical environments, development tools, and typical application development processes. The environment is a JAVA-based web platform.DTS is looking for an experienced Engineer working on SQL databases hosted on Windows and Linux servers with a strong focus on database migration, re-platforming, and adoption of cloud computing services. The ideal candidate will lead our transition from Informix to a more modern, mainstream database management system; PostgreSQL hosted on AWS cloud services to enhance our data processing capabilities and support future scalability and performance needs.This role is crucial for ensuring that the State of Utah remains competitive and capable of meeting the demands of our customers with efficient, reliable, and scalable database solutions.Primary Duties :
Participate in planning sessions to coordinate on development requirements.Participate in other meetings to address and report on development activities.Assess specifications and provide time estimates to complete assignments.Follow the Software Development Methodology (SDM) processes and detailed requirements.Use development tracking software to collaborate and document development assignments.Address and enforce screen and other standards in development work.Fulfill the Developer duties on assigned product epics / features / stories.Assist other Developers as needed to help meet Team goals and deadlines.Provide feedback on common or unique challenges found in development.Prioritize assignments and workflow to meet established deadlines.Work effectively with Information Analysts, Database Administrators, System Administrators, Internal Testers, Business Analysts, Project Managers, external technical partners, and DTS Enterprise experts.Developer Duties :
Follow the SDM for the development steps in the process.Use tracking software to document development activities and results.Perform coding tasks on application screens and their internal technical functions to ensure all specific defined requirements have been met.Ensure products delivered meet standards, return the correct data, meet security requirements, and function correctly.Prepare test scenarios and data and pre-test products to be delivered.Provide detailed information to Testers on delivered products.Other Duties :
Assist the Developers Group to develop and improve technical expertise, methodologies, and procedures.Participate in assigned Committees.Develop institutional knowledge of agency policies and operations.Make recommendations, when appropriate, as feedback to business and technical staff on application design and function.Keep abreast of emerging technologies, tools, and methods, and expand and perfect technical skills and creative abilities.Required Knowledge / Skills / Abilities / Experience :
Principles, theories, and practices of computer science.Concepts of computer hardware operation and application development.Computer relational and other databases and database analysis software.Understand project definitions, scope, objectives, business workflow processes, and diagrams.Use logic to analyze or identify underlying principles, reasons, or facts associated with information or data.Gather and document business requirements.Develop test cases to evaluate the success of software upgrades and modifications.Ensure products comply with regulations, policies, procedures, and operational practices.Prepare software documentation for future reference and maintenance needs.Plan, organize, prioritize workload to accomplish tasks and meet deadlines.Communicate information and ideas clearly, both orally and in writing.Special Considerations :
Direct experience employed as a programmer developing and maintaining computer software applications and programs using Java-based, Web languages, tools, and technologies.Direct participation as a principal web developer on projects building or maintaining mission-critical applications for medium to large size organizations.Experience with CSS, Web Services, Informix databases, SQL databases, and other relational databases.Training and experience with development methods and approaches to application security.Direct experience as a web developer on systems operational within the criminal justice field.Academic qualifications in the computer science field.Working Structure :
The ideal candidate works under the direct supervision of an IT Manager, IT Master or Architect / Engineer, or another designated Supervisor.This position is intended for a Developer with direct experience in software development projects.
