CLEVELAND AREA HOSPITAL is an independent, self-managed Critical Access Hospital half an hour west of Tulsa, Oklahoma. As the only hospital in Pawnee County, we are constantly striving to provide the highest level of care by continuously growing and updating our services and equipment. Our facilities include a level IV Trauma Center / ER, Skilled Nursing / Swing Bed program, Respiratory Therapy, C.T., 3D Mammography, a fully equipped Outpatient Rehabilitation Center, 24 / 7 Lab, and a Primary Care Clinic. Under general supervision, performs collection of biological specimens, process medical laboratory tests, document results for the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases. Follow all laboratory policies and procedures and CLIA requirements and regulations. Assist clinical team members as needed.
PRINCIPAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
Adhere to all policies of the organization, including (but not limited to) job description, certification / licensure requirements, mission statement, HIPAA, confidentiality standard and patient’s rights.Stay up to date with organization communication and directive.Arrange daily activities based on urgency of request for specimen collection or procedures.Keeps work areas neat, clean, and stocked with necessary supplies.Assessing patient needs, reviewing patient history, and determining reason(s) for drawing bloodDetermine proper specimen collection requirements for tests that are ordered.Positively identify patients using personal information such as ID, documents, or other meansAssists in patient transport if needed.Reassure patients and help them relax.Selecting gauge needles and preparing veins, fingers, and heels for blood drawing as specified by specimen requirements and patient’s needs.Consistently draws blood properly using established laboratory procedures using sterilized needles, vials, and other equipment.Ensuring the patient’s sample meets the specimen requirements for all tests collected, sufficient volume for testing, correct collection containers and / or tubes, and insuring proper dilution factor for anticoagulated specimens.Maintains awareness of timed specimen collection requirements and the importance of obtaining these specimens at specified intervals.Label samples correctly and process them for testing.Correctly process all lab requisition, forms and specimens for routine and reference tests.Answer patient questions and provide useful information.Perform CLIA-waived laboratory tests following the laboratory’s policies and procedures and manufacturer’s recommendations.Keeping and maintaining accurate records related to job activities including patient information, specimen collection, and CLIA waived testing procedures, including patient testing, quality control testing, and maintenance.Completes duties neatly, accurately, professionally, and in a timely manner.Adhere to all relevant health and safety standards while working.Other Duties as assigned.EQUIPMENT :
Operate laboratory equipment including centrifuges, microscopes, pipettes, timers, thermometers, and storage equipment according to laboratory’s policies and procedures and manufacturer’s specifications.
Operate computer-based systems including electronic medical record systems, laboratory equipment software and hardware, web-based reference laboratory websites, and Microsoft suite applications including Outlook, Excel, and Word while maintaining HIPPA compliance.

EDUCATIONAL / EXPERIENCE REQUIRED :
High school diploma or equivalent requiredAssociate degree or higher preferredPhlebotomy certification preferred.Phlebotomy experience preferred.WORK ENVIRONMENT :
