About Our Unit
The 5 East Cardiac Stepdown Unit at Indian River Hospital specializes in caring for post-operative cardiac surgical patients, including those who have undergone open-heart surgery, TAVR, mitral valve repairs, pacemaker implantations, and some ENT procedures.
Job Responsibilities
A successful Registered Nurse (RN) in this role will be responsible for:
- Providing direct nursing care to patients
- Implementing, monitoring, evaluating, updating, and revising patient care plans
- Monitoring, recording, documenting, and communicating patients' conditions
- Administering prescribed medications and treatments
- Noting and carrying out physician and nursing orders
- Assessing and coordinating patients' discharge needs
- Educating patients and their families
Requirements
To be considered for this position, candidates must possess:
- A graduate degree from an accredited school of professional nursing
- Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA)
- At least one year of current acute care RN experience; licensed military RN experience may also be considered
Preferred qualifications include:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
- Previous experience working with cardiac patients
- Experience titrating drips
- National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
Physical Requirements
This role requires:
- Frequent handling and lifting of patients, manual dexterity, and eye-hand coordination
- Prolonged standing and walking
- Corrected vision and hearing within normal ranges
- Ability to work under stressful conditions and irregular hours
- Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids
