Caregivers on Mentor Hospital’s Med/Surg Unit provide care to adult patients with a variety of medical issues or patients preparing for or recovering from surgery. Med/surg caregivers care for a broad spectrum of patients, giving them a vast and broad clinical skillset.
A caregiver in this PRN position works varying shifts from 6:30am – 7:00pm and 6:30pm – 7:00am.

A caregiver in this PRN position works varying shifts from 6:30am – 7:00pm and 6:30pm – 7:00am.
A Caregiver Who Excels In This Role Will
- Assist with direct and indirect patient care for one to two patients, such as rooming, vital signs, weight and pulse oximetry. If assigned to a closed unit, you will observe three to four patients.
- Assure patient safety by ensuring that catheters, tubes or other medical equipment have not been removed or disconnected.
- Accompany and assist patients at all times, including transport, tests, transfers, ambulation.
- Identify and report changes in patient status to an RN or physician.
- Complete all documentation and provide hand-off communication to caregivers responsible for the patient.
- A high school diploma or GED.
- Heartsaver level of Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA). If you do not hold this certification, you must obtain it within three months of hire.
- Knowledge and understanding of basic patient care activities, such as basic hygiene, skin care and vital signs.
Physical Requirements
- Requires full body motion to move and lift patients, manual finger dexterity with good eye-hand coordination; involves extensive standing and walking.
- Medium Work – Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
- Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
