What are the responsibilities and job description for the Certified Nurse Practitioner - Intensive Care and Resuscitation House Officer position at Cleveland Clinic?

As an Advanced Practice Provider, you will oversee urgent and critical care of all patients at Marymount Hospital. You will collaborate with the healthcare team to emphasize health promotion, disease prevention and the diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic health problems. On this team, you will join a successful family of caregivers who dedicate themselves to their work and take pride in their ability to improve the lives of patients.
A caregiver in this position works from rotating 24/7 days/nights, including weekends and rotating holidays.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
- Conduct thorough medical histories, perform complete physical examinations (where indicated), initiate appropriate lab, radiology tests or other special tests, and scrutinize lab data to establish a record of the patient's current health status and develop a working diagnosis and treatment plan.
- Perform and interpret common Laboratory, Radiologic, Cardiographic and other routine diagnostic procedures used to identify pathophysiologic processes.
- Perform routine and specialized procedures as credentialed.
- Prescribe and monitor medications as allowed by license through applicable state board and Cleveland Clinic policies, as needed.
- Educate patients and answer questions regarding their disease, treatments and related drug and treatment side effects and hazards.
- Participate in medical team rounds and collaborate with nursing, medical and other healthcare team members regularly to ensure quality patient care.
- Refer patients to specialists as appropriate for consultation or specialized health resources and treatment.
- Ensure continuity of care by serving as a liaison between patient and other members of the multi-disciplinary care team or other specialty areas as necessary.
- Participate in quality monitoring through the review of records and treatment plans for patient outcomes on a periodic basis.
- Facilitate appropriate length of stay, discharge planning and compliance with regulatory standards for inpatient management.
- Promote translation of evidence-based practices, guidelines and research.
- Conduct research studies and assist in data collection and analysis as needed.
- Serve as clinical preceptor for students and onboard new caregivers as needed.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- MSN upon or within three years of hire for external applicants and internal hires moving from a non-APRN licensed role to an APRN licensed role
- Current state licensure as a Nurse Practitioner and Registered Nurse (RN)
- National certification as a Nurse Practitioner by nationally accredited organization recognized by state Board of Nursing
- Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) through the American Heart Association (AHA) or Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) through the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) based on work setting
- Arrangements with at least one physician in accordance with requirements set forth by the State Board of Nursing in applicable states
- Credentialed and privileged by the Medical Executive Committee and the Governing Body of the applicable hospitals
- Demonstrated competency and the ability to perform advanced assessment and diagnosis
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- Related clinical experience
- Three years of Critical Care RN experience

Physical Requirements:
- Walking and standing for long periods of time
- Manual and finger dexterity and eye/hand coordination to perform physical examinations
- Corrected vision and hearing to a normal range
- Occasionally lifting and carrying items weighing up to 50 pounds
- Some exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids
