Cleveland Clinic Florida's Digestive Disease Institute is seeking a highly accomplished and visionary Division Chair of General Surgery to lead our outstanding team of general surgeons across multiple regional sites, including Cleveland Clinic Weston (Weston, FL), Cleveland Clinic Martin Health (Stuart and Port St. Lucie, FL), and Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital (Vero Beach, FL). These regional sites include 5 hospitals and numerous outpatient clinical and procedural sites.
The Department of General Surgery has 16 Physicians across the 5 hospitals and treats patients in all general surgery subspecialties at more than different locations across Southeast and Central East Coasts of Florida. General surgical subspecialties currently include general surgery, minimally invasive and bariatric surgery, hepatobiliary surgery and abdominal wall surgery. All sites have 1 or more Davinci Xi robots and the robotic program continues to grow. In 2023, nearly 8,000 office visits, and over 3,000 surgical cases were completed. Patients came to us from every state in the United States and more than 39 countries. We are seeking a board-certified general surgeon with fellowship training and demonstrated leadership experience in an academic or high-volume clinical setting. The ideal candidate will bring exceptional surgical expertise, strategic insight, and a passion for advancing general surgery through clinical excellence, high levels of quality and safety, innovation, education, and research. Currently at the Weston campus there is a general surgery residency program with 4 categorical residents per year and an MIS/Bariatrics Fellowship with 3 fellows per year. All sites have active medical student rotations. The Digestive Disease Institute in Florida has a director of research and an ever growing infrastructure to support clinical research.
About the Role:
The Division Chair will provide strategic leadership, oversee clinical operations, and drive growth within the Department of General Surgery. This unique leadership opportunity includes maintaining an active surgical practice while mentoring faculty, supporting innovation, and enhancing integration across Cleveland Clinic Florida's expanding footprint. Cleveland Clinic Florida will be expanding its outpatient footprint in West Palm Beach to 4 times its current size and is planning on opening a new 100 hospital in West Palm Beach in 2029.
This leader will work in close collaboration with the both the Digestive Disease Institute in Florida and the Cleveland Clinic Digestive Disease Institute (DDI)a global leader in the treatment of digestive and surgical disordersuniting with experts in Cleveland Clinic's General Surgery departments in Ohio to align best practices, research initiatives, and academic programming across the enterprise. The DDI is nationally ranked both in Cleveland and in Florida and known for pioneering surgical techniques and achieving excellent outcomes in complex cases, making it one of the most comprehensive surgical institutes in the country.
The Division Chair will be responsible for leading general surgery teams across Cleveland Clinic Florida locations, reporting to the Vice-Chief of Digestive Disease Institute in Florida and will play an integral role in shaping the academic mission by fostering faculty development, supporting research endeavors, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure the highest standards of care.
