Sterile products pharmacists assurepatient safety through clinical, pharmaceutical, operational, andregulatory knowledge of sterile products and clean rooms. Inaddition to traditional on-demand compounding, the Sterile ProductsTeam is responsible for preparation of a wide range of topical andinjectable ophthalmics, allergy immunotherapy, desensitizations,intrathecal medications, hazardous medications, anticipatorycompounding, and end-product testing. The pharmacists provideoversight of compounding personnel, aseptic technique, compoundingpractices, and clean room operations. Sterile products pharmacistssupport the Clinic and Department missions through teaching,continuous development and improvement of compounding practices,process and product research, and evaluation / implementation of newtechnologies. Key Roles and Responsibilities : I. CompoundingOversight a. Assure accuracy of compounded sterile products. b.Observe and correct aseptic technique and compounding practices. c.Manage sterile compounding personnel and workflow to assureefficient, safe, and timely delivery of compounded sterileproducts. II. Order Verification and Processing a. Review andverify adult parenteral nutrition orders. b. Manage emergent ordersfrom OR suites and critical response teams. c. Review and verifyspecialty medication orders including prostacyclins and factorproducts. III. Continuous Improvement a. Identify and respond toshifts in use patterns to minimize waste and maximize productivity.b. Continually improve work standards within the Sterile ProductsTeam to support patient safety and operational efficiency. IV.Regulatory Compliance a. Advance knowledge of regulatoryrequirements and trends governing compounding b. Assure completionand documentation of all required activities. OtherResponsibilities :

  • Training technicians, pharmacists, and pharmacyresidents
  • Precepting technicians, pharmacy students, and pharmacyresidents
  • Testing and implementation of new technology Providespharmacy services and ensures the appropriate selection, dosing,administration, and dispensing of medicationorders.

  • Documents services in acomplete, accurate and timely manner.

  • Utilizes available technologyproficiently and to full extent, in their area ofpractice.
  • Ensures all pharmacy operations arein compliance with national accreditationstandards.
  • Maintains professional interactionswith patients to facilitate successful patientexperiences.
  • Directs staff appropriately toprovide safe and efficient care.
  • Maintainsprofessional working relationships with allcaregivers.
  • Promotes a positive workenvironment by providing constructive ideas and feedback to improveservices and the department.
  • Educates andtrains students, residents, other caregivers, and / orpatients.
  • Provides cost-effectivecare.
  • Accountable for drug use policyadherence.
  • Utilizes time and resourceseffectively.
  • Other duties asassigned.
  • Education :

  • PharmD or Bachelors ofScience degree in Pharmacy from an accredited college ofpharmacy.
  • Certifications :

  • Current State licensure asa Registered Pharmacist (RPh) or eligible for reciprocation incurrent State within 90 days of hire.  Board Certificationpreferred.
  • For individuals requiredto administer immunizations, current Basic Life Support(BLS) certification through American Heart Association (AHA)and completion of a Board of Pharmacy approved course in theadministration of immunizations or certification obtained within 90days of hire are required.
  • For individuals required to respond to adult orpediatric cardiopulmonary arrest events,current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) orPediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Certification throughAmerican Heart Association (AHA), or certification obtained withinone (1) year of hire, isrequired.

    Complexityof Work :

  • Requires criticalthinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to workunsupervised or with minimal supervision.
  • Mustbe able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriateaction.
  • WorkExperience :

  • Completion of apost-graduate year 1 residency (PGY1), fellowship or 2 years ofrelevant post-graduate pharmacy experiencerequired.
  • Post-graduate year 2 residency (PGY2)or relevant experience preferred for Clinical Pharmacists hired ina Specialized Pharmacy practice area (i.e. Critical Care,Oncology).
  • Current incumbents as of 6 / 1 / 2019will be grandfathered for work experiencerequirement.
  • PhysicalRequirements :

  • Typicalphysical demands include ability to perform the job while standingand walking for prolonged times, approximately 75% of shift andcontinuously for extended periods oftime.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient toperform computer and dispensing functions of the job; ability tolift up to 30 lbs.
  • Position often includesreaching, stretching, stooping, climbing steps andsitting.
  • Must have normal or correctedvision.
  • Must have ability to clearlycommunicate verbally by phone or inperson
  • PersonalProtectiveEquipment :

  • Follows standardprecautions using personal protective equipment asrequired.
