Cleveland Clinic Martin North Hospital is a fully integrated medical campus that includes diagnostic centers, outpatient surgery and a 24-hour emergency department located in the state-of-the-art hospital. Cleveland Clinic Martin North Hospital is part of the world-renowned Cleveland Clinic, a nonprofit, multispecialty, academic medical center that integrates clinical and hospital care with research and education.
We are looking to add a Clinical Risk Manager to the team. The Manager directs the organization's clinical risk management program on a day-to-day basis and implements clinical risk management initiatives to ensure operational alignment with assigned Hospital/Institute and organizational objectives. You will coordinate with nursing, care management, medical staff, and others as appropriate to ensure compliance with all standards and favorable performance clinical risk management metrics.
A caregiver in this position works Days Calls, from 8:00am—4:30pm.
Responsibilities:
- Safety Event Reporting System (SERS) Event Management: Identifies, codes, and manages event reports for assigned Institutes or Hospitals. Investigates and analyzes trending data.
- Collaborates with leadership and support teams to develop and achieve clinical risk management goals and accomplish duties assigned to the role.
- Incorporates enterprise priorities and regulatory requirements and benchmarks.
- Conduct and facilitate Root Cause Analyses (RCA); identifies root cause and causal factors of events to lead to sustainable improvement.
- Trends RCA themes and patterns; identifies/articulates opportunities for improvement.
- Serves as mentor/preceptor for new employees.
- Assists with coaching healthcare providers or facility leaders regarding unanticipated outcomes.
- Openly communicates with members of the Law and Enterprise Risk and Insurance Departments on cases.
- Applies management processes for disclosure of unanticipated outcomes and medical errors.
- Follows-up with patients and families when appropriate and works proactively toward early resolution with other appropriate parties, as necessary.
- Identifies cases that may be potential claims and provides notice to other departments (Law, ERI) once identified.
- Presents cases to larger groups in addition to Huddle I, Huddle II, and Medical Legal Committees.
- Develops and presents education sessions upon request or with an identified need.
- Participates in Institute/Hospital Committees representing Clinical Risk Management and leads committees or projects related to risk mitigation or improving patient safety.
- Drives continuous improvement activity around clinical risk management priorities and coordinates improvement projects.
- Measures and analyzes data reflecting processes and outcomes prioritized by Hospital and the Enterprise Quality Leadership team.
- Acts as the local expert in clinical risk management for the Hospital/Institute.
- Facilitates risk and safety data analysis and decision-making from data.
- Supports enterprise improvement projects, as necessary.
- On-call responsibilities to provide 24/7 CRM consultation coverage per established CRM department process.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education:
- Registered Nurse (BSN) or bachelor’s degree in a health sciences discipline is required.
- Other licensed clinicians will be considered with commensurate education, knowledge, and skills, and acquired work experience.
- Master's or other advanced degree preferred.
Languages:
- English.
Certifications:
- Registered Nurse (RN) licensure preferred.
- Current certification as Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management (CPHRM) required or within six (6) months of hire.
- Current FASHRM, DFASHRM, CPPS or CPHQ certification, or other advanced education in the field of quality strongly preferred.

Work Experience:
- Minimum five (5) years clinical experience required. Leadership experience preferred.
- Minimum of two (2) years Clinical Risk Management experience required.
