Computed tomography (CT) technologists use computerized tomography (CT) scanners to produce cross-section images of patients’ internal organs and tissues for the diagnosis of medical issues. A CT scan technologist must be able to accurately interpret a physician’s scanning instructions, administer contrast materials, prepare and operate the CT scan equipment, and position the patient to capture the appropriate images.
A caregiver in this position works varying shifts as needed.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Acquire patients chart data/requisition and reviews both to determine correct room set-up and learn of any specific medical problems, contraindications to the study and verify that the study being ordered correlates to the diagnostic needs.
Educate patients regarding procedure, equipment, and exam to ensure understanding and cooperation.
Maintain all aspects of the CT area including the technical and clerical components to ensure proper quality assurance results and any required documentation.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Graduate of an accredited school of Radiologic Technology.
Registered Technologist credentialed by The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists R.T.(R) (ARRT) and in good standing.
Certification in Computed Tomography (CT) required within one year of hire: R.T.(R) (CT) (ARRT).
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy and related pathologic processes.
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
One year of experience as a General Radiologic Technologist.
