Cleveland Clinic offers experience and expertise in Anatomic Pathology through consultations for Surgical Pathology, Cytology, Hematopathology and more. As a Lab Technician on this team, you will perform advanced manual processing and problem-solving techniques in laboratory accessioning/data entry, problem investigations and resolution to facilitate this process. Using your knowledge of data analytics, you will coordinate with fellow staff to help propel the department forward, ultimately making a lasting difference in the lives of patients.
A caregiver in this position works evenings from 3:00PM - 11:30PM.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
- Create slides and/or complete duties associated with the subspecialty client liaison.
- Receive and accession specimens into the LIS.
- Conduct higher level accessioning in the LIS including esoteric testing.
- Conduct advanced tracking investigations.
- Serve as a subspecialty client liaison.
- Be responsible for advanced problem solving/issue resolution (pending log/SERS/block QA).
- Perform tasks involved with creating slides and/or cell blocks, perform frozen section processing (frozen section slide creation), create cell block slides and assist in cytology adequacy assessments.
- Prepare specimens for analysis.
- Perform manual processing (centrifuge, aliquoting and routine maintenance).
- Run and resolve LIS logs.
- Retrieve, sort, track and deliver specimens.
- Perform logistic activities within and outside of lab.
- Use tracking software/devices.
- Comply with safety, SOP & regulations.
- Maintain appropriate documentation.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- Associate’s Degree (preferably in Science) and two years of lab processing experience OR Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Chemistry, Physics or Medical Laboratory Science OR four years of lab technician or comparable processing experience may substitute the Associate Degree OR active enrollment in the Cleveland Clinic MLS Program

Physical Requirements:
- Working in a stationary position for extended periods
- Moving throughout the department and hospital system
- Handling and transporting bio-hazardous materials and potential carcinogens
- Ability to differentiate color, hue, saturation, and tones
- Lifting and moving objects up to 50 pounds
