The Transitional Care Unit (TCU) at Akron General offers medical/surgical services to adult and geriatric patients living with various conditions, such as COPD, asthma, pneumonia, diabetes, GI bleed and altered mental status. As an LPN on this team, you will assist fellow caregivers in ensuring these patients have the best treatment experience possible. You will assist with general patient care as well as administrative tasks when necessary. This role is a great way to utilize your passion for helping others and bettering your community.
A caregiver in this position works nights from 7:00PM – 7:30AM.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
- Work under the direction of an RN or physician to provide basic bedside care.
- Collect, document and report patient data and observations.
- Implement care plans as directed by an RN and contribute to care plan revisions.
- Administer medications and/or treatments authorized by a provider and observe patients for adverse reactions.
- Perform routine laboratory tests.
- Educate patients and family members.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- Graduate of an accredited Practical or Vocational Nursing Program
- Current Ohio licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA)
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- One year of patient care experience

Physical Requirements:
- Requires full body motion to move and lift patients, manual finger dexterity with good eye-hand coordination.
- Involves extensive standing and walking.
- Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
- Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
Personal Protective Equipment:
- Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
