Indian River Hospital’s 5S Orthopaedic Unit provides care to patients with bone, joint and connective tissue conditions and disorders. As an RN in this team, you will collaborate with Physicians, Nurses, Nursing Assistants and other healthcare staff, helping facilitate an efficient, cohesive and unified front for patients receiving treatment. You will join an encouraging and welcoming environment where every caregiver is celebrated for their role in enhancing patient care.
A caregiver in this position works nights from 6:45PM - 7:15AM, with every other weekend, one major holiday and two minor holiday requirements.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
- Participate in a residency core curriculum based on individual learning needs.
- Provide direct nursing care alongside a success coach.
- Establish and/or revise priorities for patient care (acuity of need, patient preference and resource availability).
- Initiate and/or maintain interventions to assure continuity of safe/effective care for patients.
- Respond to data indicating risk to patients’ health and initiate action to correct, reduce or prevent risk.
- Seek supervision, consultation and assistance when unable to perform safely and independently.
- Document in patients’ medical records.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- Graduate from an accredited school of Professional Nursing
- Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA)
- New graduate RN OR less than one year of RN work experience
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN)

Physical Requirements:
- Full range of body motion for handling and lifting patient, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination
- Standing and walking for extended periods of time
- Corrected vision and hearing to normal range
- Working under stressful conditions and irregular hours
- Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids
- Medium Work, exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects
- Physical Demand requirements in excess of those for Light Work
Personal Protective Equipment:
- Follow standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required
