Under the direct supervision of the Director, the Senior Technician is responsible for performing various duties assisting in the care of adult, geriatric, and sometimes adolescent and newborn patients as assigned by the registered nurse including the care of complex patients. As expected for all employees, the Senior Technician is responsible for promoting and demonstrating the Values and Guest Service standards in the fulfillment of his/her role.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Prepare units, patient rooms and patient beds for receiving patient admission, returning surgical patients, transfer or emergencies.- Provide and document assigned care, such as bathing, changing/refreshing bed linens, dressing/undressing, feeding, etc.
- Take and document the patient's temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure, pulse oximetry, weight and height.
- Perform treatment procedures, such as venous blood draws, enemas, application of ice and heat packs, non-sterile compresses, skin preps, setting up oxygen equipment, bed scale weights, setting up overhead trapeze and Buck’s traction.
- Assist with pre-operative and post-operative care, such as turning and positioning patients with proper body mechanics, applying/utilizing special equipment and ambulating the patient as directed in a safe, prescribed manner.
- Assist and accompany patients during admission, transfer and discharge.
- Perform hourly safety rounds, anticipate patient needs and respond to patient call lights promptly.
- Document patient care in the electronic medical record.
- Complete ongoing competency requirements, education programs and mandatory training to maintain certification and/or licensure.
- Prepare patients for meals, assists in feeding patients if necessary and distribute water and other nourishments according to patient needs in compliance with physician orders.
- Collect, properly label and transport specimens to proper area in timely manner.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through American Heart Association (AHA) upon or within new hire period
- Basic computer knowledge and skills
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA)
- One year of recent acute care experience

Physical Requirements:- Full body motion to move and lift patients, manual finger dexterity and good eye-hand coordination
- Extensive standing and walking
- Medium Work, exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects
- Physical Demand requirements in excess of those for Light Work
