Occupational Therapists provide many wide-ranging services to diverse populations of patients who have been referred by a physician due to a problem with their inability to perform normal activities of daily living (ADLs). This may be due to a physical injury, emotional or developmental problems, a stroke, elective surgery, disease processes, aging or birth defects. Diagnoses often referred to occupational therapy include autism, head trauma, hand and upper extremity injuries/conditions, stroke (CVA), total hip/knee replacements, cerebral palsy, sensory integration deficits, depression, cancer, arthritis, and more.
A caregiver in this position works 8:00AM – 4:30PM.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Evaluate patients and administer treatments within the standards of the AOTA.
Provide services to improve patient's ability to perform tasks in living and working environments utilizing treatments to develop, recover, or maintain the daily living and work skills of their patients.
Perform timely and thorough evaluations to determine appropriate problems, goals, and treatment plans.
Effectively administer skilled treatments based on departmental policies and procedures to a varied patient population.
Adapt techniques and instructions as necessary to progress care, plan for discharge and provide patient/family education.
Communicate patient care activities effectively, including maintaining precise, informative, current, legible records of all patients being treated.
Schedule and coordinate patient care activities effectively.
Delegate and supervise the patient care of COTAs and support caregivers.
Achieve personal and professional development through participating in continuing education, in-services and orientation.
Organize work assignments and time without compromising quality patient care, to achieve maximum productivity and efficiency.
Assist in developing and monitoring performance improvement initiatives.
Complete mandatory education and training in order to maintain organization and department specific competencies, requirements, certification and/or licensure.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Bachelor’s, master’s or doctorate degree in occupational therapy.
Current license to practice as an Occupational Therapist in the State of Ohio
Current CPR certification
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
