What are the responsibilities and job description for the Paramedic - Emergency Department (ED) position at Cleveland Clinic?
Cleveland Clinic Martin North Hospital is a fully integrated, state-of-the-art medical campus that includes Diagnostic Centers, Outpatient Surgery and a 24-hour Emergency Department. As a Paramedic, you will provide immediate medical treatment to patients presenting with various critical injuries, illnesses and concerns. In this role, fast thinking and processing are essential, as every second counts in an emergency. Your tireless efforts help improve outcomes and make a lasting difference in the lives of patients, their families and your fellow caregivers.
A caregiver in this position works evenings from 1:00PM – 1:00AM.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
- Maintain equipment.
- Assess nature and extent of illness/injury and patient's history from available sources.
- Determine appropriate independent or collaborative response.
- Administer appropriate emergency medical care, including life support procedures, decontamination protocols, obtaining EKG readings and vital statistics monitoring.
- Perform fluid/drug administration as needed.
- Communicate with medical personnel at hospital, report/record observations and follow directives until report and hand-off at hospital if on the Transport Team.
- Navigate Ambulance to scene of accident in response to emergency call if on the Transport Team.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- Completion of an accredited EMS-Paramedic Training Program
- Current Florida licensure as an Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic (EMTP)
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certifications and through the American Heart Association (AHA)
- Clinical experience through a EMS Paramedic Training Program
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- International Trauma Life Support (ITLS)
- Current Valid Driver's License (VDL)
- One year experience as a EMT-P

Physical Requirements:
- Requires full body motion to move and lift patients, manual finger dexterity with good eye-hand coordination; involves extensive standing and walking.
- Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
