The J6-1 Cardiovascular Stepdown Unit cares for post-open heart surgery patients and telemetry patients who have undergone cardiac procedures and/or are actively weaning from ventilator support. Patient Care Nurse Assistants (PCNA) who attend to these patients need to be excellent communicators, alert, empathetic and responsive in order to ensure the best experience possible. In this unit, you’ll find a strong sense of teamwork and a shared drive to make a difference in the community.
A caregiver in this position works nights from 7:00PM - 7:30AM.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
- Provide or assist with patient care under the supervision of an RN, such as checking vital signs and weight, assisting patients with personal care, point of care testing, dressing changes, applying external monitoring devices and removing urinary Foley catheters.
- Report abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to an RN.
- Assist with keeping patients’ rooms clean and orderly.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) before or during new hire period
- Military experience as a Hospital Corpsman (HM), Combat Medic (68W) or Medical Service Technician (4N0X1) considered
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA)

Physical Requirements:
- Full body motion to move and lift patients, manual finger dexterity and good eye-hand coordination
- Extensive standing and walking
- Medium Work, exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects
- Physical Demand requirements in excess of those for Light Work

- Follow standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required
