As a Patient Transporter, you will be responsible for delivering exceptional service as you assist patients in receiving care. In this role, you will ensure they reach designated destinations in a timely and safe manner, offering compassionate conversation and dialogue along the way. You will quickly become familiar with all areas of the hospital, providing a unique avenue in which to gain useful experience. All the while, your efforts will continuously make a positive difference in the lives of everyone you meet.
A caregiver in this position works days from 8:00AM - 5:00PM, with weekend and holiday requirements.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
- Transport patients to and from clinical, ancillary and support areas using wheelchairs, stretchers or beds, including patients with oxygen tanks, intravenous pumps, drips and special equipment.
- Transfer patients to and from beds, wheelchairs or stretchers.
- Transport patients during discharge to the hospital lobby.
- Ensure proper oxygen levels in tanks before transporting patients.
- Approach and help patients and visitors.
- Verify and confirm standard precautions and correct patient identification by comparing information from the pager and patient wristband to obtain the correct medical chart and verify proper mode of transportation.
- Disinfect and maintain equipment.
- Perform environmental and safety checks, identify malfunctioning equipment, document findings and report malfunctioning equipment.
- Move and deliver equipment and linen carts.
- Complete three months of on-the-job training to learn multiple hospital and clinic locations, special procedures, patient and safety emergency procedures and proper body mechanics to safely move patients.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

Physical Requirements:
Requires full range of body motion including handling of patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye/hand coordination.
Requires normal or corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
Requires working with some exposure to communicable disease.
Heavy work-exerting 50 to 100 lbs. of force occasionally and/or 25 to 50 lbs. of force frequently and/or 10 to 20 lbs. of force
constantly to move objects.
Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Medium Work.
