Research Veterinary Technicians monitor and care for the health and wellbeing of research animals and support foundational pre-clinical research that will one day improve the lives of patients around the world.
A caregiver in this position works 7:30AM – 4:00PM.
- Evaluate animals upon arrival and during the quarantine period.
- Administer medical treatments to animals.
- Assist the Veterinarian, investigators and animal caregivers with performing technical procedures.
- Monitor the conditions of post-operative animals and animals requiring veterinary care.
- Develop and implement animal health treatment plans and communicate the plan to research personnel.
- Maintain accurate records.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- Associate's degree from a Veterinary Technician program.
- Licensed as a Registered Veterinary Technician (VT) in the State of Ohio.
- Demonstrated competence as a licensed Veterinary Technician.

Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and transport equipment, supplies and/or animals weighing up to 75 pounds using carts with casters.
- Capable of tolerating a significant amount of standing, bending and walking.
- May be required to work with biological, chemical and radiation hazards after proper training
- Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required for procedures.
