What are the responsibilities and job description for the EMT-PT position at Cleveland County?
Performs intermediate human support work providing emergency medical care and transportation of sick and injured under emergency conditions, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the EMS Captain. The normal work schedule is determined by a rotation schedule based on 24-hour shifts.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Assists paramedic partner with basic life support knowledge and procedures.
Operates vehicles. Completes records and reports. Reports any vehicle, base, or radio needs to supervisor. Maintains cleanliness of base, ambulance, and equipment.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Thorough knowledge of related industry, organization, and department policies, practices, and procedures; thorough knowledge of related industry, organization, and departmental legal guides, recommendations, best practices, ordinances, and laws; general knowledge of the principles and techniques of emergency care, including diagnosis, proper treatment and automobile extraction and transportation; general knowledge of the reading of electrocardiograms; general knowledge of the principles of anatomy, physiology and chemistry in relation to the respiratory and circulatory systems; thorough knowledge of the street system and geography of the County; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; ability to keep simple records and prepare reports; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public.
EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION:
High school diploma or GED and one to three years' experience working as a paramedic or EMT, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This work requires the regular exertion of up to 25 pounds of force and frequent exertion of over 100 pounds of force; work frequently standing, walking, sitting, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms, tasting or smelling, pushing or pulling, lifting and repetitive motions; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work frequently requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions, wearing a self-contained breathing apparatus and exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment and occasionally requires wet, humid conditions (nonweather), working near moving mechanical parts, working in high, precarious places, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, exposure to extreme cold (non-weather), exposure to extreme heat (non-weather), exposure to the risk of electrical shock and exposure to vibration; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
North Carolina EMT Certification.
MedPAT is required upon employment and each subsequent year.
This position is subject to random drug screenings
Valid driver's license.
