What are the responsibilities and job description for the MAINTENANCE TECH I position at Cleveland County?
Performs intermediate skilled trades work installing, constructing, repairing and maintaining a variety of buildings, grounds, facilities and equipment; occasionally operates equipment in connection with tasks, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the Director of Maintenance. The normal work schedule includes Monday through Friday 7:00 AM-4:00 PM.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Thorough knowledge of related industry, organization, and department policies, practices, and procedures; thorough knowledge of related industry, organization, and departmental legal guides, recommendations, best practices, ordinances, and laws; general knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions associated with the trade; skill in the use of assigned equipment; ability to recognize and diagnose problems; ability to follow oral and written instructions; ability to make decisions within scope of responsibility; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Helps in remodels and building of new construction; Lays carpet and vinyl tiles as needed; Performs general carpentry and helper duties; hangs and patches sheetrock; prepares surfaces; tears out rotting wood in floors or walls; assists with measuring and cutting wood; assists with erecting a newly framed wall or other wood pieces and nailing; assists with framing a wall.
Mows grass, cuts weeds, rakes and cleans up leaves; bags debris and hauls to landfill; loads mowers on the truck; may drive truck to work sites.
Repairs plumbing: Install and repairs commodes, lavatories, faucets, and repairs minor leaks; Assists with plumbing work; adjust valves and unstops sinks and toilets.
Assists with painting on big jobs; prepares surfaces; paints walls using rollers; helps clean brushes, rollers, and other equipment upon completion or daily.
Moves furniture in/or between offices, and lift and moves heavy boxes or containers upon request.
Repairs small electrical issues; changes light bulbs and may serve as assistant to the electrician in changing switches.
Assists with maintenance of County grounds; opens County buildings up and collects litter; Stripes parking lot.
Finds and orders parts, tools, and supplies for department.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION:
High school diploma or GED and 1-3 years' experience in general maintenance, working in the trades, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This work requires the regular exertion of up to 50 pounds of force and frequent exertion of over 100 pounds of force; work regularly requires using hands to finger, handle or feel, climbing or balancing, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling, lifting and repetitive motions, frequently requires standing, walking, sitting, speaking or hearing and stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling and occasionally requires tasting or smelling; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to
make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, using of measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts within arm's length, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work frequently requires exposure to wet, humid conditions (non-weather), working near moving mechanical parts, working in high, precarious places, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, exposure to outdoor weather conditions, exposure to the risk of electrical shock and exposure to vibration and occasionally requires exposure to extreme cold (non-weather), exposure to extreme heat (non-weather) and wearing a self-contained breathing apparatus; work is generally in a loud noise location (e.g. grounds maintenance, heavy traffic).
