What are the responsibilities and job description for the SOCIAL WORKER III - CHILD PERMANENCY position at Cleveland County?
Work in this class involves providing intensive social work services in serious and complicated cases which require the flexible use of a wide range of social work skills and intervention techniques. Work is performed and supervised under a Social Work Supervisor. The normal work schedule includes Monday-Friday 8-5; Afterhours and/or weekend work may be required, if coverage is needed.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
This position will be responsible for providing case management services for children, ages 0-21, who are removed from their parents/caretakers because of abuse, neglect, or dependency.
This worker will offer services to parents, to include making any needed community referrals, making home visits, taking parents for random drug screens, transporting parents to and from appointments.
The worker in this position must also ensure that all of the child's needs are met. This includes transporting children to be enrolled in school, to medical/mental health appointments, scheduling and supervising visits between children and their parents, arranging for and supervising sibling visitation.
This position also works closely with the court system and must attend all court reviews pertaining to the children in their caseload.
The person in this position is responsible for preparing court reports for the judge to review and make recommendations concerning permanency.
This position requires a person who is self-motivated, well-organized, flexible, able to multi-task, has effective communication skills, verbal/written, likes to travel (90% of the work for this position is out in the field).
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Thorough knowledge of social, economic and health problems; thorough knowledge of social institutions and the methods of the helping process; thorough knowledge of individual and groups behavior; ability to identify social problems and needs to assess the ability of individuals and families to utilize services in problem solving; ability to plan and organize work and to understand and interpret laws, policies and regulations; ability to solve problems within scope of responsibility; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, associates, other professional and technical staff, social agencies and the general public; ability to prepare reports and maintain records.
EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION:
A Bachelor's degree in a human services field; or Bachelor's degree and one year of human services work.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 10 pounds of force; work regularly requires speaking or hearing, frequently requires sitting and using hands to finger, handle or feel and occasionally requires repetitive motions; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; ; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).
