The Cleveland Metropolitan School District (CMSD) serves approximately 37,000 students in 100 schools. Compensation: $ 63,240. - $ 88,536.

The Program Manager, Social Studies (9-12), is responsible for developing, planning, managing, supporting, organizing, and implementing social studies programs. The Program Manager, Social Studies (9-12), supports the District’s goal of every student graduating from high school being college and career-ready.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides direction and leadership in the development of social studies curriculum for all schools.
- Promotes effective instructional practices and communication that support high levels of instruction through the research-based data driven best practices, effective classroom consultation and program evaluation
- Assists in reviewing and evaluating results of District-wide assessment programs and recommends appropriate modifications to the social studies curriculum
- Monitors District data to determine trends and in turn develops and implements the most effective strategies for meeting and exceeding District and state achievement goals
- Leads a process for the evaluation, selection, and acquisition of instructional materials, supplies, equipment and textbooks to support the social studies curriculum
- Assists administrators and teachers in improving social studies instruction
- Assists in the planning and development of District and school-wide professional development for teachers to assist in raising the level of instructional performance and student achievement in social studies
- Coordinates professional development for elementary, middle school and high school social studies teachers
- Represents the District or the Curriculum Department on selected committees and/or at selected meetings
- Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with parents and the community to support District goals and program objectives
- Engages in continuous learning through professional reflection and active collaboration with colleagues
QUALIFICATIONS
- Education: Master’s Degree in a social studies-related field or education required
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years teaching in social studies (K–8, or High School)
- Must have a strong aptitude in social studies
- Ability to design engaging and rigorous social studies curriculum and assessment materials
- Deep understanding of social studies and inquiry-based social studies teaching practices
- Deeply believes that great social studies instruction incorporates multiple representations, meaningful discourse, and productive struggle
- Ability to develop, implement, monitor, and evaluate program goals and initiatives
- Processes a strong understanding of data, formative/summative assessment, and is familiar with interpretation and delivery of acquisition of data to support principal and teacher understanding of class/school level data in support of learning (e.g., NWEA and ODE Assessments)
- Ability to successfully manage multiple tasks, projects, and responsibilities
- Strong written and verbal communication/presentation skills
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students, and the public
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
