The Design and Architecture department seeks a Painter who will perform all related services necessary for preparing and painting exhibition galleries, cases, pedestals, and other support materials for the display of artwork at the Cleveland Museum of Art.
Responsibilities
Prepare, paint, and finish surfaces related to completing galleries and display furniture for the installation of artwork. Includes sanding, priming, masking, brush, spray, or roll-painting, finishing, and touching up surfaces.
Professional quality brush, roller and spray finishing.
Mix and match custom paint colors when necessary.
Maintain and clean equipment, spray booth, and work location.
Ability to estimate time and materials necessary for the completion of assigned tasks. Communicate estimates and any issues that may jeopardize deadlines. Meeting exhibition deadlines is essential. Overtime required if needed.
Maintain inventory and spray booth equipment. Communicate with Head of Exhibition Production, when needed, to order supplies required for the continued smooth operation of the department.
Assists with loading/unloading of department materials. Transports finished cases, pedestals, and other support materials to galleries.
Requirements and Key Competencies
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); minimum three years’ experience in a professional painting environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision. Must be able to safely handle fragile, cumbersome, and valuable objects. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in high, precarious places. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals.
Employee must possess a valid driver's license. Employee should have the ability to read scaled, detail drawings or layouts and to work well under pressure to meet deadlines. Overtime will be required at times. Basic understanding of art medias and materials helpful.
