POSTED ON 1/31/2025
AVAILABLE BEFORE 3/31/2025

The Collections Management department of the Cleveland Museum of Art welcomes applications for an internship position, for a period of 44 weeks, from March 2025 to January 2026. The Collections Management Intern is an aspiring museum professional, interested in a career path in museum registration.

The Collections Management Intern will join a collaborative collections management department. The Collections Management department is engaged in a wide variety of activities to support the museum’s acquisition, display, storage, insurance, borrowing, and lending of artworks. This internship will focus on registration activities particularly within the scope of CMA’s exhibition program.

This position will be provided with multiple opportunities for learning and engagement – from guided research in the history and structure of Registrars practices to practical applications of key museum registration principles and projects. The intern will gain hands-on experience with exhibition registrars, focusing on exhibition and loan planning, contracts, art shipping, and art installation management. A focus will be placed on developing the skills and knowledge base needed to successfully build a career in museum registration.

Projects under focus during this period may include but are not limited to: Assisting with the planning and implementation of upcoming loan exhibitions at the CMA, working within the museum’s collection database to update loan record information, and assisting with an archival file rehousing and storage upgrade project.

The Collections Management Intern will work closely and collaboratively with a variety of museum departments - from Exhibitions, Design and Production, Archives, and Conservation - to move beyond exposure and to enable a deeper, more wholistic understanding of how a fine art museum functions.
