Summer Camp assistants provide hands-on assistance with material and room preparation, set-up, program facilitation, and clean-up for CMA’s Summer Creativity Camp program.
Requirements and Key Competencies
Must have a high school diploma or general education degree (GED) and a valid driver’s license or other official form of identification. Experience with studio art, art education, and working with the public, including school-aged children preferred. University students enrolled in studio, art history, or art education programs are encouraged to apply.
The employee must also be able to communicate effectively and work successfully with others.
Responsibilities
While candidates will be serving mainly Youth and Family Programs, there may be occasions that necessitate assisting with the Community Arts Programs.
Summer Creativity Camps
Summer Creativity Camps at CMA are offered for children ages 5 to 12. Summer Camp Assistants in this role will be responsible for supporting lead Teaching Artists in executing studio classes including set up, clean up, and facilitation of lesson plan. They will also be responsible for supporting Gallery Teachers in the museum galleries. Previous classroom management and/or studio experience is desired.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with class set up, preparation, and cleanup of supplies.'
- Maintain and organize CMA’s studio spaces, storage areas, supplies and resources.
- Communicate with campers and their caregivers in a friendly, welcoming manner.
- Help facilitate program activities by engaging, encouraging, and providing instructional support for participating children.
- Keep track of attendance and be aware of each camper’s needs, including allergies, medical concerns, or behavioral accommodations.
- Monitor campers throughout the day, ensuring engagement in activities while maintaining proper behavior and camp guidelines.
- Assist with camper transitions between activities, meals, and breaks, ensuring a smooth and organized flow.
- Engage participants in satisfaction surveys during classes as assigned and when appropriate.
- Share feedback and/or observations with Manager of Youth and Family Engagement
- Anticipate needs as they arise, taking initiative.
