TECHNICAL SERVICES LIBRARIAN - Catalog Department
Pay Grade H1 - $25.9678 per hr. (SEIU Union position)
Full time (37.50 hrs. per week)

Job Purpose/Scope: Perform tasks related to the selection, ordering, receiving, and cataloging of library materials.
Required Education And Work Experience
Master's degree in library and information science from an ALA accredited college or university.
Coursework in cataloging and/or an appropriate discipline within technical services, (e.g. materials selection.)
One year library experience.
Essential Job Duties And Responsibilities
Adheres to Library attendance and work schedule policies
Complies with all Library work rules, procedures, and policies.
Maintains a safe work environment.
Selects materials for public service agencies by consulting reviews, ads, patron & staff suggestions, and determines numbers of copies to be ordered.
Produces electronic lists of selections and communicates purchasing information to other Technical Services agencies.
Works with vendors to improve services and resolve problems.
Performs classification and cataloging of library materials including original cataloging and authority verification.
Imports bibliographic records from vendors and bibliographic utilities into the Library’s integrated library system.
Maintains the catalog database including editing bibliographic records, removing duplicate records, and transferring order records to correct titles.
Creates and transmits orders for library materials; enters orders into the library’s integrated Library system.
Creates and transmits purchase orders and monitors purchase order registers.
Receives library materials including checking items for accuracy, identifying errors, and processing invoices.
Locates vendors for difficult to obtain materials.
Serves as a resource for selecting, ordering, receiving, and cataloging library materials.
Directs and reviews the work of support staff.
Other Job Duties
Maintains documentation related to departmental procedures and policies.
Performs clerical tasks including copying, sorting, handling correspondence, filing, word processing, answering the telephone using good telephone etiquette, maintaining office equipment, and recording statistics of work performed.
Packs and unpacks library material.
Participates in professional development and continuing education.
May attend meetings; participate on committees, present workshops and training.
Communicates with library staff.
May perform select duties of other staff in their absence.
Performs Other Duties As Required
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Computer Literacy Required for the job:
Knowledge of library practices, terminology, classification systems and search procedures.
Knowledge of cataloging and classification systems and practices.
Ability to effectively search, enter, edit, and correct information in the Library's integrated library system.
Ability to use bibliographic utilities, databases, and online vendor sources.
Ability to plan and direct the work of others.
Ability to follow complex written and oral instruction, and to identify exceptions.
Ability to set priorities and to organize data and workflow.
Ability to demonstrate attention to detail and accuracy.
Ability to multi-task.
Ability to perform repetitive tasks efficiently and accurately.
Ability to demonstrate presentations skills both oral and written.
Knowledge of business mathematics and of business English including spelling and grammar, and the ability to proofread.
Ability to adapt to new and updated software and procedures.
Ability to demonstrate advanced computer skills including use of MS Windows, word processing, spreadsheet processing, electronic communication, database management, and Internet browsing.
Inter-personal/human Relations Skills Required
Ability to demonstrate courtesy, tact, and effectiveness in dealing with others.
