Position Overview
Under the supervision of the Clinic Manager, provide clinical evaluations for patients referred for low vision rehabilitation assessments, including selection of visual aids and recommendations on compensatory techniques. This role works very closely with an interdisciplinary team of occupational therapists, case managers and opticians to provide individuals with low vision or blindness strategies to access the visual world. 

Essential Functions:
  • Capable of performing eye examinations, dilations and refractions that meet all required licensing and practice standards.
  • Prescribe glasses as well as recommend low vision aids and compensatory techniques.
  • Refer patients for additional services as appropriate, including occupational therapy, vision rehabilitation therapy, orientation & mobility services and assistive technology services. 
  • Good communication skills to coordinate care with the patient’s case manager.
  • Utilize Electronic Medical Record concurrently while serving patient.
  • Use testing and diagnostic equipment to perform a thorough and efficient examination.
  • Complete reports of evaluation and recommendations in a timely fashion and enter case notes into charting / records system.
  • Assure that adequate testing equipment and supplies are available for efficient and effective patient care by informing administrative / supervisory staff of deficiencies.
  • Maintain valid license to practice Optometry in the State of Ohio and possess the necessary and appropriate insurance.
  • Submit information required to be added to insurance panels for insurance contracts serviced by Cleveland Sight Center.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Demonstrate at least a basic understanding of the functional impacts of low vision and blindness.
  • Familiarity with medical and vision insurance and ability to bill office visits appropriately. 
  • Demonstrate competency in using a computer and electronic health record system.
  • Excellent customer service, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule that meets the patient demand. 
  • Able to always maintain a pleasant and professional manner.
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively to coordinate care according to patient’s needs.
  • Must possess the ability to perform well in both a collaborative, team environment and independently.
Qualifications:
  • Clinical skills necessary to complete a thorough vision examination including refraction and dilation as well as other diagnostic assessments. Experience in teaching and presenting to professional and lay audiences is helpful.
Education: 
  • Doctor of Optometry with a current and valid license to practice Optometry in the State of Ohio. Additional training in medical and optical aspects of low vision is preferred.
Equipment/Tools Used:
  • Computer; software including Word, Excel, Outlook and other software and programs used for the position, Client Care.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to lift up to 20 pounds and have the ability to stand, sit, bend, and type for long periods of time.  Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as required.  Must have the capacity to travel with or without clients; ability to go out in the community to make home, employer, and library, etc. visits to, with, or on behalf of clients.
