What are the responsibilities and job description for the Admissions Counselor position at Cleveland State University?
Recruiting students in assigned geographic area(s) and targeted populations, to assist in achieving enrollment goals for Cleveland State University (CSU). Builds relationships and communicates daily with prospective students, families, high schools, and community college counselors, managing selected correspondence, planning and executing on-and off-campus programs, representing CSU at college fairs and community events, and managing a travel schedule. Interprets and informs prospective students and families on CSU admissions policies and procedures. Maintains records and prepares reports. Works a flexible schedule including travel off-campus, evenings and weekends. Performs other functionally related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree preferably in business, communications or related field.
- Two (2) years of experience in one or more of the following areas: college or university admissions recruitment; college student activities; college admissions counseling at the high school or college level; marketing, sales, public relations, or related experience.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to establish driver eligibility under the University’s Motor Vehicle Policy.
Preferred Qualifications
- One (1) year of related professional work experience.
- Experience working in a college or university admissions or orientation office.
- Experience using social media and networked communications.
- Experience using customer relations management software.
- Experience working with diverse student populations, which may include low-income, first generation, geographic regions, ethnic groups, high school and non-traditional students.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
- Outstanding written and interpersonal communication skills as evidenced by application materials.
- Prior experience with public speaking. PC proficiency, including word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation applications.
- Effective organization of time and tasks including the ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to travel frequently and to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
