What are the responsibilities and job description for the Coordinator, Transfer Center Advising position at Cleveland State University?
Provides accurate and timely academic advising and transfer credit evaluations for prospective undergraduate transfer students through the Cleveland State University (CSU) Transfer Center. Instructs and advises students on the pathways to pursue their degree and offers suggestions on how their experience may be enhanced. Travels to local community colleges for on-site advising and conducts virtual advising sessions. Supervises student workers and graduate assistants. Performs other functionally related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college.
- Three (3) years of experience advising students, working in student services, enrollment services area.
- Experience assisting and supporting under-prepared and undecided students. Must be able to work evenings and weekends as needed.
- Ability to travel off-campus as required.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to establish and maintain driver eligibility under CSU’s Motor Vehicle Policy.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree, preferably in student personnel services, adult learning and development, counseling, guidance, education, or a related field.
- Experience with a CRM system.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
- Working knowledge of student development, education policies, and trends.
- Proficient in written and verbal communication skills, the ability to make effective presentations, have strong public speaking skills, develop, and drive change and effectively communicate change.
- Ability to build and maintain professional relationships and work as an individual contributor and an effective team player, in addition to being self-directed, and forward-thinking.
- Ability to effectively engage with stakeholders when issues arise to ensure appropriate communication and develop effective resolution plans.
- Skilled in problem-solving, analysis, follow-through, influence, and persuasion.
- Detail-oriented and capable of managing large amounts of data, maintaining detailed, comprehensive records, analyzing and organizing information, and having time management skills.
- Strong organizational skills, excellent interpersonal skills, and a “Customer Focus” attitude and delivery.
- Knowledge of working with integrated software systems as an end user and utilizing social networking communications.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, Teams, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends, as required.
